xfi 292 stock bottom end?
i can get a really good deal on one,just wanted to know what kind of hp are people getting with these cams?or where i will be at. lt4 hotcam kit with lt4 heads,hooker longtubes,borla adj. exh,3400 edge stall built 4l60e,alum driveshaft,373 gears. what do u all think? need help, and yes i will spin it to 6600 or so.

I would highly suggest that you go with something considerably smaller. That cam belongs in big cubic inch stroker motors, not stock bottom ends. Hopefully fergymoto will chime in. IIRC he ran that cam with the stock bottom end and the hp didn't even peak yet at 7000rpm. His car runs faster now with a custom Ai cam that I believe its a 22x intake duration.
If you are willing to spin your stock bottom end to 6600rpm I warn you that it will not last long at all. If you have the funds saved up for a rebuild then by all means.

I don't think there's any doubt the XFI 292 cam would make tons more power than your hot cam. I scoped this cam out for a long time along with the GM 847 cam. They are very comparable, and I've heard of a few guys making lots of power with the 847 cam in otherwise stock engines (stock heads, internals, etc). Its true you'd definitely need to buy the proper springs - b/c these XFI lobes are so aggressive the springs will need to be very tight. I went with the XFI 280 which is considerably smaller and my AFR springs had WELL OVER 400 lbs open pressure at the seat at max lift (.576). Many guys are using the patriot springs.
Talk to Lloyd Elliot. Unfortunately I got connected with him far too late in my rebuild project. Otherwsie, I not only would have gotten a custom cam from him but I would have chosen different head chamber volume and/or piston configuration. I selected the engine & heads without any consideration for piston to valve clearance, so when it came time to get the cam I had to say bye bye to the XFI 292 & GM 847 and "settle" for the XFI 280 b/c it was the biggest one I could safely fit.
EDIT: My95Z made a good point about streetability. You should really consider this. I've been told the XFI 280 will be very tame in my new motor but forgot to consider its a 383. Yes, guys with bone stock 350's are tearing up the strip with the GM 847 cam but I'd imagine those cars are not daily drivers by any strech (surely not "comfortable" daily drivers, no matter what anyone says).

The XFI 292 is about 10 degrees bigger on the intake than the 847, how exactly is that comparable?
Most of the fast stock shortblock cars are running 224-230degrees intake duration. Yes there are guys going bigger and swearing up and down it was a good choice, but that is defending thier mistake. If it were TRUE they would be backing up their claims on the track.
The LT4 heads are just going to compoud the rpm needs of this cam on a small motor, a big port lets a cam spin higher.

I ran that cam in my first heads and cam setup, making the classic newb mistake that bigger must be better. It's hard to convince a then 18 year old otherwise LOL. It is true that we spun it up to 7,000 RPM on a chassis dyno and the power had still not peaked. It did drive alright and I took it on long trips, but I later switched to the AI 226/234 and liked it a lot more.
The best I ever ran with it in the 1/4 mile was 12.20s at 114 on regular street tires. Later on I got some drag radials and ran high 7.50s and low 7.60s in the 1/8 but never made it to the 1/4 with the drag radials before ditching that cam. I would definitely advice a smaller cam

i have the 292 cam and so does my buddy.hir car souds real nasty and he has 52mm tbody, pace setters long tubs,undedrive pulleys,3600 stall,373 gear,and stock bottom end.his har mad with cut out open. 350 wrhp and 440 wrhp 0n a 100 shot.and he ran a 12.5 1/4 mile and 11.30 n2o pass.he love this cam ......

The comp cam might indeed have 8 degree more intake duration, but the narrower 112 LSA of the GM cam will be helping it trap a bit more cylinder pressure (not more than the comp cam, but more than the identical GM cam if it were being run on a 113 LSA).
Did the threat starter mention just how great of a deal he could get on the XFI 292? I wouldn't say this came is ideal either but if its a cheap drop and run then who knows... I still think his car would be a lot more fun compared to his current hot cam. Custom grind would be ideal of course. So go talk to Lloyd - at least tell the guy what your future plans are, etc, and see how much a custom cam now would cost or if it would either be worth it (in case a lot of changes were planned in the future).

I got the XFI 292 in my carbed 355 LT1 11.5:1 w/stock crank. Very responsive. the dual plane intake is holding me back from spining it up more but i got some plains over the winter And yes it sounds nasty as F#@k when I launch it
