Going to spend all day tomorrow doing miscellaneous things in the engine bay. What do I need in order to remove the TCS? My buddy says that it looks like we'll need a longer throttle cable.

yea you just have to get the non-tcs throttle cable. I couldnt find it new anywhere so I got one used. Just unbolt the tcs over the valve cover, disconnect the old throttle cable and run the new one. You wont have cruise control anymore so I just took that cable and tucked it up near the firewall.

Yep I did this and it really is that easy plus that Traction Control box weights about 20lbs so get it out of the car
Yes the new throttle cable cost $24 but your GM dealership probably will have to order it as for the Cruise Control GM no longer makes it so you will have to search around for a used one.
