Default Best Forged Piston?

What is the best standard bore forged piston on the market? With the highest compression?

While piston choice is important in determining final static compression ratio, it is not the only factor. Deck height, stroke, cylinder bore, head gasket thickness, combustion chamber volume, all have an effect.

Lots of people like JE and Diamond, but it totally depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Forged or hypereutectic? Dished or domed? Rod length? Lots of questions to be answered.

Ya I bet! Well for starts I'ld like to know the difference in forged vrs hypereutectic? I was looking at a set of standard bore forged Diamonds, with the -5cc valve relief, would these work, I want to keep stock length rods with my cam? But what kind of piston do you use to raise comp., domed? But be reliable in high heat applications?

Pistons are not an engine component that can just be swapped out with new ones.

What exactly are you planning to do? What cam? Any headwork?

Well just wanting to upgrade pistons and rods. To handle the cam I have because I don't think it will last forever. Is raising compression simply by adding forged, 23 degree domed, pistons and H-beam rods as easy as it sounds? I'm thinking of keeping my stock bore, rod length, and crank. Without shaving my heads or the deck, will I have piston to valve issues when using my cam? My heads are staying stock, my mods are listed below.

What style JE pistons did you decide to go with? I like the left and right hand domed. Looks like a standard bore with six in. rods will make it a .357? With 14.+ compression? Do you need to change cranks to install these pistons?

did he actually get banned?

if you end up with 14.XX:1 compression you will need to run RACE gas

.357? huh? I believe thats a gun?

will I have piston to valve issues when using my cam? YES
i'm not even sure the pistons would clear the HEADS with such a small chamber

Is raising compression simply by adding forged, 23 degree domed, pistons and H-beam rods as easy as it sounds? take whole motor out disasemble have it honed new bearings all around put all back together reinstall yea its easy should take like ummmm... 5 hours tops

4.040" bore with a 3.48" stroke is a 357 c.i.d.

Take a step away from the car before you majorily eff something up. Do more research

Well I just wanted some opinions on the best, standard bore, forged piston. For stock heads. I don't want to run race gas all the time. By using a left, right side pistons and taking up the space in the combustion chamber.

The pistons are not going to be your weak point anyway. Stock will be just fine.

On a side note: if you want more compression take your heads to a machine shop and have them mill them about .200" that will give you your 14:1 or whatever you wanted. If you have a band saw, that could work too..

I'll tell you right now your going to have to clean up your cylinder walls prob .030" over inorder to get a good finish and ring seat espically on a motor that has never been rebuilt before (I am assuming you have above 50K miles at least). You will have to hone it at the very least inorder to acheive the correct piston to wall clearance for the new pistons and also to allow the rings to seat properly. Next you will want to stay under 11.8-12:1 to run pump gas with a mild tune. You're also going to have to re-balance the rotating assembly for the new crank and rods. I recommend talking to a machine shop about it. As for good pistons at a good price mahle, SRP Pro Series and Diamond are great ways to go. Also when you say right/left piston, I'm not sure what your talking about they are all the same. Your going to basically have to rebuild the motor. Also with the new rods and pistons they will need to have the rod ends sized to achieve proper clearance with the right size bearing on the rods and mains and you will also have to properly clearance the pin in the rod/piston to allow for oiling.

All in all its not a light task to undertake if you have never built an engine before or have no professional guidance. Like I said before I'd reccomend talking to a machine shop.
