Default Distance from firewall to engine.

I am in the process of installing my new heads, solid roller, single plane intake with EFI connection ECM. I want to mount the coils on the back intake since their is a lot of space with no distributor and single plane.

My question is how much room is there from the back of the head to the firewall. I already have the motor out and I am making the coil mounts on the stand.

So if some one could measure this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

I will post some pics up soon.

IDK if you are going to want to do that.....

1 there is a lot of heat in that area especially since there is no air flow.....

2 It's going to be a real P.I.T.A if one takes a dump, trying to replace one while it's burried behind everything..

This is just my opinion, I wouldn't want to subject the coils to that much heat. Why not just mount the on the shock towers?

Here is a pic of what I had in mind. This will make for a stealth setup + will look great for shows and leave my valve covers free for adjusting my solid roller. The bracket is just a mock up right now. Just want to make sure this clears the firewall. Also I cant imagine that the coils would be hotter here than bolted to the valve covers.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaan that looks beautiful. I'm gonna have to second DUH, lots of heat in that area with no air what so ever, I would leave mounting it there as the last option, even though I see a lot of room for it there in the picture. Just my opinion.

I think it's great for leaving the v/c access, but when you constantly heat those coils it will burn them up. The area you're planning on putting them is pretty much the hottest area of the engine bay. That's right below the furthest forward part of the windshield and our windshields are heat treated to withstand that heat. And that's exposed to outside hair. So while I like the idea of hiding them, and the clean install (BTW, they should fit as long at you use those 90* boots off the coils) I really can't condone it for reliability issues....I foresee coil replacement in your future.....Just my $.02

Thanks guys. I will see if I can find a better place and still keep them concealed tomorrow.

I will start a new thread tomorrow and show the progress of the build. I am hoping for 850 RWHP, but anything over 750 and I will be happy.

It is a Edelbrock Victor E single plane manifold w a Edelbrock Low Profile elbow & FLP 90mm TB. The manifold is ported and TEA re drilled the bolt holes on the heads when they made me my new Trickflow heads.

I will start I thread tomorrow when I can grab and shoot some more pics.

LOOKS GREAT! I would not change a thing, after all the stock LT1 coil and ignition module are mounted on the cylinder head. LS style are bolted to an aluminum valve cover which has hot oil on it all the time. You have it spaced off of the intake enough I think it will be cooler there!

The LS Coils are actually pretty well spaced off of the Valve Cover. I recently saw a setup where the Coils were mounted on the Core Support.. it looked pretty good.

Someone should do a heat check for you. Take their car for a long drive with lots of idling time, and loffing ambient temp. Then quickly pop the hood and shoot the difference areas of their engine bay with a heat gun. Log the different temps and post them here to give you an idea of the differences.

Seems easy enough and I'd do it, but no gun. Could help others, too, down the road.

Just a suggestion.

I dont think heat will be a problem. Besides i only put 800 miles on this car last year. So I cant see I will ever have a problem.

Thanks for all the input and I will post heat temps up when I get it on the dyno which would be worse case scenario.

Dyno temps and actual in car temps will be different. In the car will definitely be hotter do to being covered by the cowl area. Good luck hope it works out for you.....

I think you will be fine, as long as you keep them off the intake completely.

I've been running my Delteq/MSD coils in the second hottest spot (IMO) for years.

That is one sick setup you have !!
