Arguing about dust and oil doesn't make the dust not stick to the oil. Clean your engine.

Using compressed air to clean out dust is perfectly acceptable method to get grit or grime out of an engine. If you want to go the extra step of taking the caps off then fine. A dust storm I wouldn't worry about it. Having it in the back of a pick-up doing 60mph in a dust storm and/or down in the dirty holler then yeah I'd probably redo everything.

I would take it to a car wash first, spray it down, then hit it with compressed air and call it a day.

I think I would first hit it with compressed air. Then I'd take it to the car wash and spray it down and then I'd put it in the garage with a humidifier pointing right at it. I'd then acid wash it and then ceramic coat everything. I would then hoist it about six feet high and drop it a few times just to make sure any stubborn granules were extracted.

What if the dust storm was like this? lol.

Put it this way when I built my engine I did it in the house and every time I left the room for more than a few minutes the plastic garbage bag was put back over the block to keep any dust out. I would take it apart and clean it.

There is no need to hot tank it dude. That's for thick sludge buildup and stuff. Wash it with purple power, soap, and water.

Shouldn't that neck be yours since you decided to keep it uncovered during a dust storm?

See if you can find a machine shop with a spray cabinet so you dont have to remove the cam bearings. Jeff
