the lt1 block with the proper machine work can hold 1285 hp to the wheels, but you must have all of your rod and main bearing clearances setup the right way.

Rick never had a 102, believe it was a 91.5. It spun a bearing that Friday he went 8.0, right after that pass, went to turn the boost up and the car was hurt so it never ran again. He bought a SBC to go race some class in ORSCA but lost interest. Still has the chassis. But yea, the car never hurt the block, broke trans, lost a slick in the burn out box at HMP, the block was a trooper though.

maybe i'm gonna look for it.... an FI94x might be just the way...

I think the 8.08 can be beat with the right car.....

Bigpurple did your car put down 1285 RWHP???? I know you're deep in the 8's at 167ish but I was thinking that was more around 1000-1100 at the wheels.

its along story to explain but i was knocking right @ the door but i broke a rocker shaft on the dyno before i could reach the #. i went 8.50 @ 171 on 275drs. we were playing with the ams1000 tring to get my 60" back in the 1.2's but just couldnt get the box figured out. i feel we could have went some low teens or twentys.

******* sick.... well good luck with the new build man. If I had the money I would have bought those turbo headers in a HEARTBEAT. Did you have a motor plate or were you on the motor mounts? I'm thinking about definitely doing a motor plate this time around...

He can correct me if im wrong but iv'e seen pics of his engine bay and pics of the tubular K member he was selling off his car and i believe he was running motor mounts

big ricks thrust bearings were getting eaten up left and right he gave up on the lt1.

HPE built it IIRC......

Thrust bearing failures are 100% always something external to the motor... usually too much converter pressure pushing against the flexplate....

not a problem with the engine IMHO... I had a thrust bearing failure with my 355 and have since modified my TH400 so that pressure doesn't build up in the converter. John Kilgore did the work and I haven't had an issue since.

thanks outlawz, no I didn't have a motor plate. Madman made some type of torque turn buckle to help stablize the motor. I'll try to post some pics later so I can give you guys an idea what the part look like.

i dont think so either, i've never really seen a 2 bolt splayed block actually fail. Usually bearings fail, i guess we'll see when Sykora ever decides to put the beast to the test

totally off topic i see my name fallen down to #14 quickest damn that didnt take long congrats to everyone, unfortenatly i can no longer keep up and i give up so if anyone needs some nice parts check me out in for sale section. OH maybe we can do 1/8 trap speed fastest lt1 ? that should put me back in the top 10 with my 118mph trap

Yeah I saw the parts list on the GMHTP article... I have just as good if not better parts in my shortlbock. The few things I saw that were cool is the belt drive, he 4 bolted the front main cap which nobody does, and the no longer available 215RR heads. My heads won't flow what those did (I think they were 33x cfm and mine are like 315-ish).... But on a boosted app you can make up for lost headflow with BOOOOOOOSSSSTTTTT...

My decision was based on the fact that this economy sucks. If I sold my motor it would only sell if I offered it up for like 6-7K.... I've got like 15 in it..... I mainly don't want to invest money building a grenade with the pin pulled but since everyone i've talked to hasn't found a limit to an LT1 block then realistically we're working with a 23 degree headed SBC with reverse cooling... no need for a dart block if i can make 1400-1500hp with this block...

With the motor just needing low comp pistons and a turbo cam i'm already like 60-70% there with the project... Just need the turbo, all the piping, intercooler, BOV, wastegate, and hot side to include the headers.... I'd rather start from here than start with 6 grand and nothing but space under my hood.... (6K doesn't go far if i'm trying to build a stout turbo motor).... even more foolish since with a piston and cam swap i already have a stout motor ready for boost...

I'm not going to do it until I get the car in the 8.80's on spray tho.... probably mid 2010 i'll rip the car apart...

Speakin of fast red nitrous cars though, what every happened to speed density's car, last I heard it went down, and then he bought a C5.

Did I miss an update, is it still down, is he still looking for 8s?
