Default "cam only" horsepower record?

Hey guys, i am wondering who holds the record for the highest whp on a cam only lt1. Has anyone pushed over 400? 390?

I am wondering because i am in a great position to try to make it to a new level here. I have an m6 car, still on 10 bolt, and a new 4 bolt main lt1.

I have seen cc306 cars push 370-380 but i really want to push the limits on my cam only setup. Thinking about getting full bolt ons then going with a custom grind to try to make even more than the cc306 can.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Heath

So I guess drivability isn't a concern? Just curious.

If I remember correctly some solid roller guys did 400+ cam only also, that was probably 3 years ago though, might've been JasonShort or his friend who I am thinking of that did it.

I read about a few SR guys over 400rw with stock heads.

seems like a poor choice in the long run just to meet a short term goal. And its not like every dyno is accurate anyway.

Agreed.

If all you are concerned with is bragging rights, go for it. Even then, IMO, no one is going to really care too much. There are much better ways to go faster.

its just a personal thing i want to achieve before throwing a set of heads on it. Im not trying to impress anyone although most everyone would be impressed by a 400 whp cam only lt1. I dont want to build a drag car as this is my DD. I guess i will just hit 400 with the cc306 then throw some heads on it and try to reach another good goal.

I wouldn't be impressed, since the dyno graph will look like this ________/^\ and you will need huge gears and stall to make it run a number in that narrow powerband. Def not DD material.

It would be much more fun and meaningful to chase the cam only ET goal, but that will take a dedicated drag car - also not fit for a DD. Sadly there are not many records you can break when limited with drivability concerns.

PS: 400rwhp cam only will take a huge cam and all the rpms the stock computer can give it.

I dont think driveability is going to get any worse if i stay with the same cam. the car makes plenty of torque as it is. I can putt around at 1800 rpms all day. The car does have a rather narrow power band as it doesnt really wake up until 3500 rpm or so but when im racing i rarely see under 5k anyways. I am just going to leave the 306 in it, put a fuel system in it, finish bolt ons, and dyno tune it and i will hit 400 whp.

Not tryin to rain on your parade...but you seem awfully confident that you'll be able to hit 400rwhp cam-only with a cc306. Don't you think if it were easily done with off the shelf parts, it would be the hot set-up?

If it were that easy, you would have heard of a whole lot of 400rwhp cam-only LT1s by now. I mean LT1 guys have been running the old cc306 since the mid 90s...I would think someone would have figured out this formula well before late 2009.

Best of luck meeting your goals Honestly though, if you are dead set on your cam-only 400rwhp goal, I see a solid-roller valvetrain in your future...

No offense man but you need to step back to reality. The average rwhp for a full bolt-on cc306 car with a 6-speed is mid 300's, 350-365 I would say. That's quite a bit off of 400rwhp don't you think? It takes a set of stock ported heads to get a cam like that to push over 400rwhp. Also keep in mind there are some uncalibrated dynos out there that really inflate/kill peoples numbers. In the end dyno numbers don't mean anything at all, a dyno is nothing more than a tuning tool. The track is where you can brag so IMO you are wasting time and money.

If you want 400rwhp cam-only on a legit dyno, your gonna need a healthy *** solid roller that's going to turn enough rpm to maximize the computer. Although it will put out nasty numbers, it will drive like a turd on the street and blow a stock bottom end to pieces.
