The MSD opti is vented. You stocker is not. You have two choices. Either cap the vent hole on the opti, or run a rubber hose to your intake elbow... Id choose option 1.

Don't cap the hole! The defeats one of the biggest benefits of an MSD cap on a 92-94, the cheap conversion to vented.

Just drill a small hole in your elbow and run the other cap vent with the "T" and check valve provided into a vacuum port on your manifold. Viola - instant vented opti.

I thought the things came with complete instructions on how to run the vent hoses. They are on MSDs website.

That debateable...I realize what a vented opti is and all about. However ive seen plenty of non vented opti's live a very long and healthy life.

If the guy were capable of searching the web for information he would have realized the MSD opti is a bad thing, much more expensive and less reliable than stock.

The cap and rotor kit is nice and would have allowed the conversion to vented that the one rocket scientist here is saying not to do.

How many more GM ones are out there than MSD? How many MSDs have made it to 100K and beyond?

1. its safe to assume there are alot more GM ones since they have been made since 1992
2. the MSD opti has only been around since what? 2006? is that even enough time for it to get the same 100k mile treatment as the GM ones?

MSD have great quality products and racers of all levels have proven their products performance. I'm sure their R&D team did their homework when they made their LT1 optisparks.

It has been a long time since I installed mine, but if I remember, you should have a white t-bar adapter that came with the MSD unit. On the driver's side of the manifold there is a small rubber 5/16" hose next to a larger EGR hose. Install the t-adaper on the 5/16 hose and route it to the bottom of the MSD unit. The top hose will run to your air intake. You must puncture a small hole in it and install the elbow there. Make sure it is a snug fit.

It is important to install the vents because they remove several things from the distributor, including seeping oil from the timing chain cover, acidic gases that result in premature failure, smoke that can obscure the laser, and any moisture that may accumulate. Make sure you check the optispark vent hoses for leaks on a regular basis because if they crack your MSD will suck up water in a rain storm and the car will stall out.

Some guys don't like the vented optis. My first unvented opti lasted 90,000 miles, no leaks. I have found in most cases optis fail because of bad installation, and leaky hoses.
