Default How can I tell if I have a lt4 timing chain?

I was told this engine came with a lt4 timing chain and gears, but it looks like the lt1 setup? Is there any distinctive marks or part numbers on it so I can tell if its a lt4 or lt1? Is it way bigger than a lt1,would I be able to put a stock lt1 cam sprocket next to the lt4 cam sprocket and it be way larger or what? Im help

Also it will be going in my 97t/a so will I have to modify the timing cover for the lt4 timing set to fit behind it or not? 96-97s are the same timing covers right and if so I think I read that something has to be done to fit the timing set under....correct me if Im wrong thanks guys

The LT4 chain is a roller design (looks like the chain on a bicycle). The stock LT1 set uses a link-bar type chain.

The LT4 chain will also work on your OBDII vehicle just fine without modification to the timing cover.

^yup thats a LT4 set. one solid piece of metal along with the roller chain. The stock LT1 cam sprocket has 3 big holes in the sprocket.

no you wont have to clearance the cover for the LT4 setup. You do need to change to a vented opti setup though to use the timing set if using a '94 or below LT1.(just for future referance any one searching the site)

your good to go otherwise if using a '95+ LT1. slap it on and thats it

considering the "new" price of an LT4 timing set. why not go ahead and buy a cloyes single or double roller setup, and buy an EWP while you're at it?

similar over-all cost involved, plus you'll have less drag on the motor without having the water pump drive gear, or the drag of the pump itself.
