We took less than .015" off the LE2 heads (I bought them used and had then freshened)
My Darts were intentionally milled to reduce chamber size to 56cc.

I prefer to minimal deck my block so I can do more than one rebuild because if a head gasket ever blows you know the heads are going to have to be shaved. I like to use head gasket thickness to setup my quench.

How can you do this without a zero deck? If you leave the piston in the hole the minimum head gasket you can get is a .029 plus whats in the hole. The tighter the quench the better. Optimum is mid .030's.

My heads are milled .030, with .026 head gaskets and the 355 deck was cleaned up about .005-.010 Guy I bought the motor just said they were cleaned up. The speed pro pistons all sat about .010 in the hole. I had to drill out and angle the intake bolt holes for it to seat right. Hope this helps

I have had more LT1 heads/cam setups than most but the block is not too much of a problem with the intake it's the heads being milled that affects the intake ports not lining up just right. I always just take the gasket off and see how well the intake fits w/o any intake gasket, if it lines up perfect then you need to take the thickness of the intake gasket off the intake, somewhere in between or have the heads cut to match which is difficult. You can't hardly see .030 so if the boltholes don't line up just right then that needs to be addressed. I had to mill .060 off one of my intake to make it fit right but that was with a set of angle milled Trickflows. On my current 383, I had to mill .030 off the intake to get it to fit just right. Once you start moddifying the engine nothing fits just perfect so it's up to the builder or you to make it fit just right. These are a couple reasons why some LT1's run really strong and some have lackluster results. Just because the bolts line up ok doesn't mean your ports are lined up perfect. Later Clint

That's almost what we did to mine .005 in the hole with .027 cometics//////daily driven 355...
The machine work was so reasonable that I'll never slot intake bolt holes again....
