Default Stupid question about throttle body plate..

Hey, you know that little throttle body plate we have (held on by 6 little bolts)? Well I was wondering if something was tampered in that area, would it cause a vacuum leak? I removed the plate the other day to paint it with some crinkle paint (looks great) and I lost the rubber gasket that goes between the plate and t/b. So I took some RTV and made a little seal all around it (but I guess not as good as I thought). So right after that, the car would act funny. Every so often (especially after getting on the throttle), the RPMs would just hover and stay between 1,500-2,500 rpms even in neutral. Pulled out the IAC and cleaned it (it was only a few months old, looked great) and just cleaned it all out. I checked other vacuum lines for a leak, and nothing. Everything seems fine except that it sometimes idles high as hell. So my question is, is there vacuum right at the throttle body plate? Sorry for the stupid question.. I just have no clue

Might not be a bad idea to at least check the gasket you made or replace it with a proper gasket.

Yup, you've created your own problem here. Time to get the correct gasket in that TB.

there is no such thing as a stupid question ......we alll did something wrong at a certain point on our cars .... what probably happened is : you obstructed some vacuum passage or you have some air leaks somewhere .

before you reinstall the new gasket ,be sure that you have cleaned up all rtv residue ....otherwise you migth create another problem !

I just didn't think a vacuum leak could be caused from the top of the throttle body. You learn something new everyday. Thanks guys

The effect is similar to what you'd see with the IAC wide open.
Unmetered air slipping "around" the TB ports (and thus the TPS)
