Question LT1 crank pulley question

While removing the crank pulley earlier, I noticed it had cracked at the webbing where the puller holds, and I mean straight through so no choice but to replace it of course.

Question is, is it interchangeable with the SBC crank pulley?

i dont think they are, they have to be balenced to your engine

Only reason I asked if its interchangeable is because an SBC crank pulley would be far easier to source at this part of the world.

I believe they are zero balanced as every pulley is.

I am going for an LT1 specific, but IF and thats a bold IF, the SBC crank pulley works then sourcing a replacement will just be easier.

Been looking at aftermarket units, quite some $$, but some are cheaper than the GM replacement.

the SBC pulley's don't interchange. The SBC balancer is different and the LT one is the balancer and pulley in one. It doesn't have to be specific to the engine in terms of the balance of the engine, but it is specific to the Gen II SBC (LTx). Good Luck......

If you're saying the hub cracked where the balancer bolts to that, you can get a billet hub and balancer from Jeg's.

My hub is in great shape, its only the pulley that got damaged. I will take a picture and post it up.

I could get one off e-bay, but shipping to here is quite expensive.

First I will look into how much the stealership will charge for one, and then try to dig one out from the scrap yards or something. If I can't find one here, I will order one off Summit, but I am not wasting 300$ on an ATI lol

if you use a under drive pulley most of them still require the use of the balancer

Been using my bbk underdrive pulley for around 8 months the way the instructions told me too which was to take my old one off and put on the bbk underdrive pulley and everything has been fine. Doesn't say anything bout needing a balancer to go with it. But hey that's not what I know, that's what bbk says.

Do you have a PN or link for this pulley.

Have you had any problems with your electrics? I have seen other cars have alternator problems with underdrive pulleys.

That's why it is a good idea to get an alt. O/D pulley w/ the U/D pulley.

If you have the BBK underdrive aluminum crank pulley kit you need your balancer too.

Check the instructions
Here's a hint

So its pointless then. I am picking up an OEM from monster81 tomorrow.

I am trying to focus on getting a stall, gears and rebuilding my 4L60E, and then my next purchase will be a motorbike (or I just drop the idea of the stall/gears until I break my trans).

I know you said no ATI but the superdamper is a nice piece if your revving higher than stock. The damper is LT1 and model specific IE your damper will not fit my vette (damper on my 95 Impala SS was different than the one on the vette too....

Check out this sale....they are the real deal EI it is actually ATI.... selling off old inventory and cosmetic blems.

Good luck.

Thats a good price compared to Summit, but 150$ is better spent in some MSD wires and boot protectors

Thanks for the advice and help guys.
