I am debating doing a ewp when i get around to putting my motor back together (no cash) is there any way to wire up the pump so that when it is running a led in the car would light up? also can you run a manual ewp switch as well as having it setup for normal operation when the switch is off?

Yep. There is a wiring schematic floating around somewhere that shows how to wire in warning LEDs.

I didn't remove anything from my timing cover or plug it. My thinking was that if the EWP failed I could swap back to the stock water pump instead of waiting on shipping. It's been that way for about 5K miles now. The EWP is a CSR/CSI that I picked up used already in a stock housing from a member here. I've been very happy with it.

OP....I noticed that you are asking about this mod even though it's already listed in your signature. Are there any other mods listed there that you don't have yet?

Thanks. I'll have to remember that when I'm reading an old thread and it posts times or dyno results with "mods in sig".

Yes, one is the Canadian Co. the other is U.S..

Also, a good thing to run if the wiring is a full size blade type, is a 30amp breaker style. That way instead of a fuse blowing and it over heating, it will trip the breaker and reset with no harm done.

My current Meziere uses a mini-blade style. I haven't found a breaker in that size yet.

Since this old thread got bumped I'll take the chance to speak up again about my experience with this mod.

Still have the CSR/CSI on the 97 SS that I bought used from the classifieds here.....have about 10,000 miles on it now. Now I have one on the 95 Formula with about 6,000 miles on it since installing. It was also bought used from a member here. Neither have given any trouble and together with the 160* thermostats and adjusted fan on/off settings have worked fine through GA summer heat, A/C blasting, idling in traffic, highway cruising, and last week with the Formula - hard driving through the TN / NC mountains for about 1,000 miles. (That was a blast!) I left the stock drive sticking out of the cover and keep the coupler on hand so I could throw a stock pump back on if I ever got caught in a bind.
I'm starting to think that you're about as likely to have a failure with a stock pump as with a nice EWP. Either can ruin your engine if you don't keep an eye out for a problem (or wire in an alert) and I personally like the extra 10 or so rwhp.

For future readers, I'm running the Meziere HD. Before I ran there smaller unit. The smaller one needed slight trimming and was great. Updated to the HD unit and it needed even more trimming. The HD unit is actually hitting the fan itself, don't know if any other members are having this trouble but just an FYI.

the "HD" unit is longer which on a F-body would require more triming if space allows. IIRC most run the standard Meziere on F-body.

I have a B-body so room is not an issue. HD pump on for 14 years now

WOW, 14 yrs, Nice.
The good part is these are rebuildable as is the CSR but I like the Mez.
Also, they say good for @ 3500 hrs. I have 98,xxx miles on my duramax and just turned 3700 hrs. So that should say something.

yeah 14 years and 80+K miles. way more than any "mechanical" lasted or pissed on the opti. I bought a used "spare" for $50 I have had in the trunk for 10 years now. WP swap would only take 10 min if I had to with the electric.

I have also had the stock drive gear in place and still have the spline in glovebox if I ever had to put a mechanical back on.

I just put mine in, and it's also hitting the fan blade. So much for "Some F-Body vehicles may require trimming of the fan shroud".

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mez-wp118hd/overview/

When I get out to work on the car again tomorrow, my plan is to elongate the bolt holes of the fan/shroud assembly in order to move it slightly away from the pump; hopefully that works and I get the clearance necessary for the blade to move freely. Why can't they just make **** that actually fits?

They do. It's called the CSR pump. Dunno why everyone keeps on insisting on the Meziere.
