Cam suggestions?
-355 shortblock with -5cc speed pro hypereutetic pistons and ARP main studs/rod bolts.
-Mildly ported/polished heads that have been milled quite a bit, I want to say .025 at least.
-Mr gasket .026 head gaskets
-comp 918 springs
-comp hardened pushrods
-stock lifters
-crane 1.6 roller tip rockers
-edge stall converter(unsure of size, somewhere around 3k+)
I will be using 3.73 gears and am looking for better numbers than the 306! I know some of the advice will to be to contact a vendor and get their input. I am just doing a little research on here before I go bothering one of them.
Thanks!
A little less duration with similar lift to the 306 will do very well, have less overlap (306 has a huge 74.5 degrees of overlap), a little more low end torque. Advanced Induction has a nice 230 series custom grind with similar lift numbers to the 306 (306 is .544/.576 with 1.6RR) and duration of like 223/230. Lloyd Elliott also can make anything you want in a split pattern cam.
Valve size you're going with? That'll be important as well to figure out where you're going with the cam...

engines arent vagina's. u shouldn't just stick anything u think is big in there.
most of any chicks will tell u, it's not the size its how its worked
Love it- nigh unto sig worthy!
On stock size valves with a lightly worked pair of heads a 'big' cam will definitely be wasted since it won't pull as much air as it wants through the heads until they're opened up properly in the hands of a professional porter. If your plans are for a fast, enjoyable streetable ride in the 330-340RWHP range I think you'll find most shops like LE, AI, etc. will point you to the neighborhood of 220 to 230 duration range (220/228, 224/230, 226/234, maybe as much as 230/236) and lift in the neighborhood of .540 to .570 on 1.6RR. This probably will indeed be a custom grind for best fit.
You've got everything you need there in the valve train to make power in the 340-360RWHP range with ported heads (a little shave would gain you a tiny bump in compression). Also with that thinner gasket you'll pick up a little more compression. There's additional cost in working the heads, but it's really worth it if you can save up the extra cash.
Stock bottom end- might be good to replace the rod bolts with some ARP while you're at it.

If you want to go custom which IMO is the way to go, I would contact Lloyd Elliott at Elliottsportworks.com or Advanced Induction. Either of them will set you up with a nice custom grind that will suit your needs.
