Default 95 coil on a 96 ICM

I'm putting a 96 motor in a 95 car and the coil on the 96 is different than the one I need. Can I go to the parts store and buy a 95 coil and bolt it to the 96 ICM or are there any differences?

I'm also open to the idea of converting the 95 wiring to accept the 96 coil. I've heard its been done but cannot find any information on it.

Yes Sir, no problem with the ICM, you can an ICM on any LT1 coil (Well, there's only two). As far as the coil, you really don't need to replace your whole wiring JUST to be able to use a 96-97 one plug coil, just stick with yours it's just fine, put the ICM on it and your good to go.

Though there are different ICM listed for some years, people don't seem to have any issues swapping them around.

Thanks for the info guys.

So you guys are saying that its possible to run a 96-97 ICM on a 93-95 car?

Does anyone have the pinout diagrams for the ICM plug for a 93-95 vs. 96-97?

It just seems odd that there are two part numbers listed but they're compatible?

Distributor ignition schematics for all years are on my Tech Page.
ICM pinouts are the same. You could not swap them if they weren't.

There are actually 3.

93
94-95
96-97

The ICMs all plug and play, but from the General there were different part numbers for 93 (16132799), 94-95 (16191409), and 96-97 (16201599). My 93 came with a 96-97 ICM and I changed back to a 93. Of course I did a new OE coil and knock sensor at the same time, so no way to know which one of the 3 was the fix, but the following year my dynos were finally smooth as silk and the motor was making a lot more juice. ICMs affect the timing curve, and if you go to O Reilly's, they'll likely give you the same ICM for 93-97 so stay away from that garbage.
