Default Replacement clutch on the cheap

What kind of clutch combos have you guys ran that dont cost an arm and a leg and perform decent.

I'm thinking stock PP and Hays or Mcleod disk?

I have what I "think" is a Valero stage 2 clutch in there right now.

Is valero stock? Maybe it's just a stocker Has about 40K on it and is still doing pretty good even with the slicks and nitrous but it slipped a fair amount in 1st the other night so I know it's going to give up eventually.

Ive put a stock clutch through quite a bit and it doesnt slip yet. 65k and 100 passes running mid 13's so if your really on a budget I would consider it.

My budget is whatever it takes to get a decent clutch. Not looking for a mcleod street twin just yet though... Just a middle of the road. I was thinking it would be less expensive to use my stock pressure plate, and have surfaced if it needs it, and get a good disk to put in there. I know others have had luck doing that and some haven't. Just looking for feedback on what combos seem to work.

I'll be running much faster than mid 13's so I need something that will hold a lot harder than the stock clutch. It was slipping on motor the other night, when I hit it out the hole with a 150-200 shot I think it would just give up altogether.

Not going to waste money on a stocker. They're tough, but I want to step it up just a little.

I have always had great luck with Spec. My stage 3 held to 700RWHP. I am currently running a Stage 3 + which is rated to something like 825 Ft lbs.

I would run there stage 2+ or there 3+. They are also decently priced.

Imo go with a spec 3 or 3+ as ysilt1 suggested. I ran one for 5yrs in my old z with no issues, it was a great clutch.

My clutch is on the fritz also. I am looking into getting the Ram Powergrip HD. I heard they have excellent holding power with very little loss in driveability.

If youre putting down that kinda power dont skimp and buy a cheap clutch. I know how you feel not wanting to spend the money on a twin disk but think about a spec 3 or 3+. I put a stage 4 in my car cuz i got a steal on it but alot of people wont want to dd on it but i love it.

Here is my Opinion I had a Spec 2 in My Car years ago,The car put down 530 rwhp on the kit,I put 40k Miles on the clutch when the motor went in the car I sold it to a friend of mine and when he pulled the clutch it still looked good!!I was very impressed with Spec quality.I recently got back into an LT1 again and Needed a Good clutch I searched and Searched it drove me crazy!!! I really wanted a Mcleod Twin,But couldnt afford the retail prices, so I took a leap and I called them and they hooked me up with a Remaned unit for $900 When I got the clutch It looked brand new!! If you are looking to spend less look into Spec 2+,3,or 3+,Zoom HD Clutch or RAM HD Clutch most of those can be had in the $500 Range.

Pretty sure that's the route I'm gonna go. Did you reuse your original pres plate or buy a new one? How much power is it holding?

Thanks

I'll be watching this thread... I'm in need of a clutch that's a little stronger than a stock clutch, but don't want to spend the money on a street twin just yet.. (Swapping to a LS serries next year so... yeah.. haha)

I had one and wouldn't reccomend it. If the clutch had any amount of heat in it it would slip. Kevlar clutches + heat = fail

I swapped from the McLeod to my ram powergrip HD with no complaints. It drives better and grabs a hell of a lot harder. I probably only have 7k miles on it so far so I can't comment on the longevity but I do daily drive my car.

And to all the people recommending the street twins... do you know how hard they are on the rest of the drive-train?

Not very expensive either...$305 to your door....
