Need advice for removing steering linkage?
I included a pic. Some of you may know Im trying to install some LPP headers.
Damn why didn't I pay someone to do this?...LOL.
Anyway I really don't want to take out the motor mounts and jack the engine up , looks like a PITA!!
I've removed the one bolt from the steering link but cant get it to come apart ....any ideas??

Get the top bolt out on the Column, get the bottom one out on the Rack side of the Linkage, and then kinda force it up the Column portion..if you get it to move it will give you enough room to slide it off the bottom, then you can remove it completely.
Once the bolts are out you can even press the shaft into the steering column a bit if you need to, just don’t push it all the way in. The steering column shaft is a two piece collapsible unit so it will slide into the column.

spray the whole thing down with wd-40 or a lubricating oil and it will go back on easier
i lined it up half decent and stuck a long piece of metal in the u-joint and hit that piece of metal with a hammer till it was on far enough. then bolt it together
Slide it onto the steering column first, then wedge it onto the rack. Take the bottom bolt completely out before you start. I've done it enough times to know that's about the best way to do it.
hey Spartan are you in like spring tx as in Houston? im right off 1960 and 45. anyways my tilt mechanism I think was broken by the previous owner so now to start I have to tilt the wheel up and down. im looking to replace the whole column since I think that would be the easiest way. do you have any advice? also do you know of any for sale? I have a 93 trans am. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

i think the harness is fine its the tilt mechanism that's broken. I have also considered doing a push button start but then I would still have to tilt the wheel to shut her down. im going to try and make a youtube video today to show exactly what the issues are and maybe someone can point me in a direction to solve it. thanks SS RRR
True93ta; Your tilt is broken? How so? As in it will only sit in one position or? If the tilt still works and locks in to its places then it is fine, the only thing it has to do with the ignition is that when you tilt the steering wheel, the wires that run the length of the column bend a little, which in part includes wires to the key cylinder. I'm with SS RRRs idea..
it is still broken. and its broken as I can move it while its locked but in a up and down diagonal pattern. im still going to try and make a video mayber this weekend but the left side seems the be the trouble side.
