Have you ever installed a ring and pinion before? It is a very meticulous process and does take some specialized tools in order to be done correctly. Mess up and you've wasted a good chunk of change. I would have a shop do it, IMO.

Why waste the money on a 10 bolt? I regret ever putting money into mine when I blew it up..

Yup after 2 broken 10 bolts I stepped up to a nice 12 bolt.

ya i understand that but when you dont have 2 grand just laying around its pretty hard to do something like that. i have had to bust my *** to get it to where it is now but future plans are to find a 9 inch for it

I had the same mentality. Now 4 broken 10-bolts later, I upgraded to a 9". If you don't plan on running slicks or drag radials and launching the ***** off of it, the 10-bolt should deliver what you're looking for.

Otherwise, save the money on this rebuild until you have the funds for a new rear (or have the funds to piece it together over time).

I have seen 6spd cars break the 10-bolt on radials at the track. some have luck with them and some dont..i feel i am on thin ice with mine but i should be done with my 8.8 soon

Typical answers .

Truth is, gears are not that hard to install, everyone is just scared of them. And if you don't have coin for a built rear a gear swap is a good mod for the 10 bolt.

Mine doesn't seem to like the nitrous, slicks, 2 step combo I've been throwing at it for some reason though...

These guys are right, be wary of the track til you get a built rear.

lol gregrob i can understand why the 10 bolt doesnt like that. this car will hardly ever see the strip and wont see slicks. actually its never been to the strip and i might only go to the strip to see what i will run. so have any of you guys ever used the smart sleeve? or ratechs pinion depth tool? the main answer i am looking for on the depth tool is if you can use a regular pair of dial calipers on it
