Default Hard-Blok short fill

Thinking about short filling my 355 turbo motor w/ Hard-Blok. Anyone here use it? If so what is the impact on cooling. I have heard it works very well and the short fill is the ticket for a street engine. My motor has already been machined so if it doesnt upset cooling all that much hopefully i can still do it. Will have to call them to confirm tomorrow. Thanks!

Short fill will work great. I always half filled mine even on my street motors. Never had a cooling problem.

Default hard block

No coolant issues, maybe slightly elevated oil temperature though.

Well I figure if you are pouring something into the coolant passages that surround the cylinder walls and hardens it has to add some strength to the cylinder walls for boost and Nitrous use and keeps them round. Also filling the block would have to make it alittle more sturdier and I would think help the mains from walking. Just my take on it cold be wrong though.

You are correct. Pretty much sums up what the Hard blok engineers say. As far as oil temps go im not worried as I run Redline Polyol Ester synthetic and will most likely have a cooler as well. Thanks for the opinions guys!

Also since you have already machined the block after you fill it and let it sit before assy I would check the cylinder walls make sure they are still true and did not distort. Prob wont have a problem since its only half filled but I would still check it.

When you fill it if the machine work has already been done the mains need to be torqued to spec. Also needs to have deck plates on and torqued to spec.

This sounds like a PITA. Granted my engine is in long block form at present but still. I am going to call them today to discuss some options/recommendations.

Mine is also short filled...... works awesome. have them fill it up to the bottom of the freeze plugs....

It increases structural rigidity in the bottom webbing of the block and around the cylinders since it's basically concrete....

and from what i've heard it actually does a better job of keeping the coolant and oil seperated so oil temps might be even cooler than normal. (although I haven't experienced THAT). My oil typically runs in the 230-240 degree range after a pass....

Spoke with Hard-blok they said short fill will work great as long as I do one side at a time and torque the head on right after. He said let it sit until the next day or so then do the other side. After wait a couple weeks (shouldnt be a problem since my car wont be done anytime soon!). Thanks again for the input and experiences with Hard-Blok. Odering some this week.

I always heard it's best to do the hard blok before any machine work, but if it can be done afterwards that's great info to know.
