Thumbs down Heads up On LT4 Knock MOd

Just talk to Mike Kasser at the WS6 store to see why there price went from $49 to $109 and this is what he told me. GM has discontinued the LT4 KM and he has 4-5 left. Most people are already sold out so if you need one better get one quick no matter where you find it

Couldn't this just be adjusted for in the tune? I was kinda under the impression it was just kind of a bolt in solution if you weren't getting a tune right away.

Couple alternatives:

-Can physically wire in resistors to change the resistance of the knock sensor

-Can adjust the tune for I think more knock retard

-Can completely turn it off with a tune wire in a resistor with the same resistance as a knock sensor to replace the knock sensor. I tuned mine out on mine because I know my exhaust is hitting the frame. I'll change the tune when I get different exhaust. Could be dangerous if you get a really bad batch of gas.

I still have a LT4 KM because I thought my LT1 KM went bad but it was exhaust pipes hitting the frame.

The LT4 KM is designed to "ignore" certain areas or knock that the LT1 KM would normally pick up on. Tweaking the tune will not have the same result.

You can only tweak the tune's reaction to knock once it is detected by how much timing it pulls etc.

Well I guess my other LT1 will have to suffer with the LT1 KM then. How can they discontinue a part though, that has aftermarket uses, and what are owners of LT4's going to do if it goes out? Granted how often does a KM even fail? Anyone on here have a failure of one? I've got a LT4 KM that I put in there about 5 years back when I did headers.

I can easily answer this one. Im in a similar business.
The manufacture agrees up front to provide replacement parts for x amount of years once production of the vehicle ceases. Clearly, they cant make stuff forever if its not going into current products.

With that said, there is still a market and money to be made when someone in the aftermarket starts producing them assuming there are no legal issues preventing it. Cant see how there can really be under the circumstances.

Looks like the price of my LT4 KM just went up 3X. It is brand new and I have never even used it because I dont have issues with the LT1 KM. I keep it in the toolbox for when I go get tunes, just in case.

It does not show discontinued at several online GM places where you can search by part number. It could be that it has not filtered down, yet. It seems some people have run into backorder situations.

I'm afraid you have been misinformed.

They are not needed if your tuner has a clue.

Jason Cromer said his system showed the part was on backorder as opposed to discontinued.

No, a ZR-1 has a completely different engine (LT5).

thats the actual sensor, which i believe is hooked to the module? dont quote me there. The module it self is inside the pcm.

A long held understanding proven wrong then. This was explained to me years ago on corvetteforum.com when I was looking for a LT4 KM. Considering my tuner has never asked for the LT4 and the LT1 is still being used, and I dont have a KR problem, I will assume he knows his stuff.

I stand corrected.

After pcmforless tuned mine for the hotcam years ago he said I didn't need the lt4km any more. I'd have to check but pretty sure I gave it to someone. I think it was only like $30 when I got it 10 years ago.
