Default Choosing A Cam

Hey guys I'm in the market for a cam, and my main idea is to try to run a cam only bolt on LT1. So I figured I'd ask for some ideas on either specs to get a custom grind cam or a cam that is common that will make the most power for a LT1 with stock heads. I want the car to still be some what streetable and I have a 3400 converter with a built 4l60e , Bolt ons will include tb,long tubes, Cai , Dumped exhaust with H pipe nd dynamax bullets, depending on the cam i will decide on different rocker ratios (1.6 or 1.52). Car also has 3.73s in the rear and i'm looking to spin the motor to around 6600k between shifts.

Only looking to spin to 6K? That is going to severly limit your cam choices. With that sort of limit were talking a small grind like an LPE 211/219 or Crane 227. I wouldn't be afraid to shift another few hundred rpm beyond that if I were you which would really open your choices up and allow you to make alot more power. I'm assuming here that your looking for something decently large that will make good top-end power but not hurt drivability too much?

Also, power isn't going to equate to track times, so looking purely at dyno numbers isn't the best idea. You need a full setup that is pieced together correctly. What's your goals in terms of track times?

edit spinning anything under 6600k 6k limits me to much on cam selection**

As for track times my main goal is touch 11s on a cam only set up almost full weight (ac delete, heater core delete, some things missing here and there) I Understand its going to be ahard to accomplish. As for suspention I have a BMR Torque arm , adj pan hard , subframe connecters , BMR lowering springs 1.2in (maybe getting QA1s in near future) , and tubular k memeber.

Ok that makes a difference now lol. Spinning up to 6600k is getting to the point where the bottom end will be greatly stressed but for every few people that grenades his/her bottom end shifting that high there is one or two that are ok. With that said I won't sway you either way because more rpm = easier to hit 11's cam-only.

Their are some off-the-shelf cams that would suit you decently well but I really feel that a custom grind would be the answer. It will give you a little more of an edge so to speak which you will definetly need when searching for 11's cam-only at near full weight. Some custom cam people to look into would be Lloyd Elliott and Advanced Induction.

BTW, those drag shocks would be a good idea. I have been cutting mid 1.5 60's with my stock shocks and lowering springs but with that said, a set of drag shocks and springs would certainly make things better. You may want to step the stall up which will not only make your goal easier to obtain, but assist with the low-end power loss that you will see with a large cam. More gear obviously wouldn't hurt but 3.73's are decent.

Your goal isn't going to be easy but with the right combination of parts along with some seat time I think it's certainly possible. I see your in Downingtown, I live up near Lansdale, not too far.

Yeah definetly, I'll be home on March 5th for about a week or so. I have some work to do to get the car ready for Pinks and a Pontiac Shootout the next weekend but assuming I get all that done I'll definetly have the car out (also assuming this damn blizzard stops! haha)

Yea but I wouldn't recommend any of them. I had Brian from PCMforless dyno tune my car and he found another 10rwhp over what a reputable local shop was able to get.
