You will need to have a milling machine to bore the throttle body and a way to machine new 52mm throttle blades with the proper elliptical shape (they are not round). If your after a 52mm (which is the largest the stock TB can be bored SAFELY) you can get one for about $125 with your stocker as a core.

Your intake is usually 52mm, and the stock TB is 48mm. So going to a 52mm is not really a bad thing. You can pick up a used one fairly cheap. I prefer a ported stock myself. Ran one for years, and noticeable power increase (along with CAI and catback, of course). You really have to increase airflow all the way through, in and out, for the best results.
You can smooth the TB, but porting will require new blades.

Some of the castings can be ported to 54mm, even then you have to offset the throttle bores so you don't breach the upper vacuum port that runs from the passenger side valve cover to the upper fitting on the TB. I've ported many LT1 throttle bodies and the majority can only go to 52mm SAFELY. I stick to 52mm because at 54mm the casting walls are very thin, around .030 or less in some areas, with it being cast aluminum it can fracture easily. The last thing I would want is one of my throttle bodies failing and damaging someone’s engine. Also most intake manifolds have 52mm openings which allows for the throttle body to be bolted on without touching the intake manifold.
