Default What anifreeze?

Hello all, I am about done getting my 383 build back together in the car so I was wondering what antifreeze should I use in this thing? I have a new radiator, heater core and hoses in this thing so there is no dexcool anywhere in it. What would you use and why?

Well after the cloged heater core, all the crap in the expansion tank, clogged steam pipe and banjo bolts, gunky radiator, and clogged reducer in the heater lines, this is why I ask. Can I run the green stuff or do I risk damage to the water pump. It's a brand new GM pump so I don't want to F it up. Everything is fresh and clean, new radiator lines and hoses and the block was cleaned before and after machine work so can I use the green antifreeze, the green premix, or do I have to use dexcool?

I've been running the green stuff in my motor for 10 years, including the new 383. Go for it. Just don't mix the two.

When I first rebuilt my motor I used Dexcool since i believed it would be better.. Turns out.. that stuff besides the fact thats its sticky as shet..it made my car run hotter.. I flushed it soon after and put in some of that green/yellow stuff and the engine actually ran alot cooler.. Wouldnt ever go back to dexcool.. my .02

Been running dexcool since the car was new. No gunk or clogged anything. No signs of sludge. I've just changed it often (at least once a year). It ain't no 100,000 mile coolant or whatever it claims to be.

You can run whatever you want. The green stuff is more forgiving if you get air in the system. It's the air the causes Dexcool to gunk up.

I use the green in my Z never had any problems with it.

I'm debating on going to green in the 97 Firebird because that Dexcool stuff starting to look like its gunking up i haven't changed it in about 2 years.

I'm also almost finished with my new engine and I will be replacing the radiator, heater core and all hoses and I intend to run Prestone Green in the wintwer and distilled water/water wetter in the summer.

Totally correct but i still do not run the stuff. The biggest problem is what kind of watter you add to it. Never use tap watter for mixing. Always use distilled watter when mixing. Green anti freeze is great but i use FLEET CHARGE pre mix and it is a 100K coolant. Never mix coolants its not recommended, and can cause real problems. Thanks Tom

Dexcool gets a bad rap in large part because at the same time they switched to that they started putting stopleak in at the factory. The stopleak plugged things up and people assumed it was the Dexcool. I think a lot of cars were topped off with green by service stations too causing issues.

I used Dexcool till I got a second car that had green in it, then I went to the universal yellow stuff. I have had more cooling problems in the cars that came with the green honestly.

Really though as long as the car is well cared for any of them will work just fine.
