Do a search on here for the trap door mod and do that. I didn't want to hack up my car for some reason so I dropped the tank the old fashioned way, I will NEVER do that again. If there was a coupler on the filler neck it would be no big deal but the damn thing is solid and it sticks straight out the side. Definately cut the trap door

im also gonna do a fuel pump this weekend debating about droping the tank or doing the trap door. I dont like the thought about cutting a hole in my car and sparks next to my tank. Dont like the thought about unbolting my rearend and droping the tank.

+2 on the trap door. Ive also done it both ways. If you have the solid fill neck its a PITA from the bottom

use a dremel with a cutoff wheel, they don't throw a lot of sparks and either way it is sealed up pretty tight up top and the evap lines are over on the side. I can tell you from experience if you don't do the trap door you are going to wish you had...I do

I have done it both ways it takes awhile to drop the tank where the trap door is quick and easy! If you decide to drop the tank try to run as much of the gas out as you can before you do the install so it wont be so heavy.

+3 on the trap door mod for 2 reasons.
1. It is fast and makes the job much easier the first time.
2. If there is a problem with the pump or anything else in the tank you'll have to take everything back apart again to fix it and then you'll be REALLY happy to have done the trap door mod.

this^^^^

when i did it i messed something simple up on the pump assembly and was SO greatful that all i had to do was remove my trap door again to get to it. Plus, its under the carpet and out of view, and is really in no way structural, so who gives a $hit?

Use the sheet metal attachment for an air chisel. Leaves no sharp edges, sparks, ect. Also took me like 5 min to cut the opening.

I bought mine from Snap On, but I know Harbor Frieght or Sears would have it.

This was off my phone. Still need to finish my Dyna Mat and build a panel.

+10 on the trap door. I was paranoid about keeping my T/A unmolested so I dropped the tank. Probably took about 4-5 hours extra with all the crap to pull out and bend the heck out of the filler neck to get it out/in...

I agree with everyone else. When my stock pump died I had just filled the tank up. It went out while trying to leave the gas station. I only live about a mile from the gas station so I pushed it home and cut the hole with a dremel.

x10 trap door mod! Make sure when cutting the hole to cut a extra 2-3 inches or so over the fuel lines..it will make it easier to reach and disconnect the them.
