Default E-Cutout in Borla Catback

Hey guys i got a problem with a my neighbours not being fans of my car. I have a borla catback with wide open plate and just did long tubes over the winter so now its going to be even louder. Im debating to put a cutout in the right tail pipe where the plates go in. Is this going to make that much of a difference? Ideally i would like to go with a stock catback and put a cutout before the axle so i stock quiet and wide open with the flick of a switch. So would the cutout be enough to quiet it down or am i looking to swap it out?

Ive seen some videos but thats nothing just a couple speakers on my laptop i want in person advice if anyone has ever done this.

By the looks of your SIG you are just bolt-ons. With that said, I wouldn't waste the $$$ on a cut out. Stick with what you have until you bump it up in the cam and heads area.

Stick the block off plate in there and see. If they still bitch when you have the block off plate in there putting a cut out in isn't going to help. I am guessing you have no cats? If they continue to bitch I would yank the y pipe out and give them some open headers!!!!

His thread was clearly not asking if he would get power gains, but rather deadening a little bit of sound..

That's a really good idea though to put a cutout there though. A closed plate Borla isnt THAT loud, so a cutout to open that plate quickly would be cool. Never heard/seen it done before. Go for it!

I have a the DMH, got it from Trick Performance, I love it. It goes between the plates, so with it closed it's as quiet as a full plate in the Borla. I have long tubes, h/c and no cats, the car sounds awesome open Borla but like you I have neighbors and I'm sure they don't share my enthusiasm for modified LT1s.

I had a cat in the stock y pipe and will be running dual 3" cats in the pacesetter y. Just stock manifolds with the borla catback with wide open was more then enough to get there attention and well its only going to get louder with the long tubes. I just didnt know if blocking off the right tail pipe is going to quiet her down enough go justify buying the cutout or if what im after is going to a stock catback with the cutout for quiet and loud. Is there any difference between the stock catbacks vs the ones that come in the ws6 or firehawks that come with the slp dd.

Im not out for performance i just want to have that on and off switch so i can roll into my neighbourhood and be stealth or wide open once i get out of the neighbourhood.

I just switched my exhaust from a loud mouth to a Borla with open plate to quiet my 98. Keep the Borla and get an electric cut out. With the cut out closed it is going to be very quiet

I have the old style Borla that doesn't have plates and it's very quiet, but awesome tone.

I put a manual cutout in for when I want to uncork it.

Do you happen to have a clip of your car with the cutout open and closed??? Thats what im after right now to see if it makes much of a difference.

Here's a video i found on the QTP site:

http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/Media/index.php

Scroll down to the burgendy Z28 with the wing its got the cutout in the right tail pipe aswell. Sounds like it does quiet it down quite a bit vs it wide open like mine is now.

cutout on a borla with it closed is very quiet. Get the cut out and call it a day.

So you can "adjust" the plate?

Borla's from the factory come with adjustable plates ranging from 1/4 open to full open. In my case i hate changing plates out so i opted for an electric cutout to stick in the plates location for a like a stock look then cutout my exhaust with a dump. My neighbours hate my car so when i put the long tubes on i had to do something about it and this thing is cool ****. With the flick of a switch i can make it sound significantly quiet or wide open and nasty. So im happy and everyone else will be happy around me. Great purchase for anyone living in the city!

Will have a video up shortly just trying to finish up some more work on the car to get it out for a drive!

I have the hotcam, SLP midlengths headers, no cats & borla with the DMH e-cutout and I love it. I put it in for the same reason you did. It's great to be able to start it up at home with it closed off and open it up in seconds when I'm out of the neighborhood. Best mod ever for the Borla!

Will any 3" cut-out work or does it have to be the borla "compatible"?
