That's what I said I did. I used progressively larger drill bits in the corners and marked the bits so I only went thru just enough to puncture the sheet metal. Made the holes large enough to get snips started. Snips worked quite well, and I lost no hair, developed no blisters, nor did I inhale any smoke.

I never said tin snips would not work nor did I say they were a bad idea. I just didnt have any at the time and I hadn't heard of anyone blowing themselves up yet using the cutoff wheel so I thought I would give it a go. If I die working on my car so be it lol.
They may be a good idea to use, but this works too.
The fuel lines are only about 3/4" away from the sheet metal but the metal is only about 1/16" thick so basically use just enough of the wheel to cust 1/8" and your good to go.
I could cut with little to no sparks from the wheel fairly easily until I got it opened slightly, then any fumes would have escaped so I picked it up a little bit, I just made sure the wheel shot the sparks into the car instead of down and I swept up the mess after I was done.
STOCKTA, if you would like to add that info feel free! This write-up was only ONE way you could do this! There are many others that people can use and they can make an educated decision after reading this post. The more the merrier!

If you end up blowin up doin this then **** was just meant to be that way..lol
There is a pretty good amount of room between the Tank and the Panel that you will cut..that's if you are cutting in the correct places.
Here is mine..

lol, I am not worried about vapors. I am worried about exhaust fumes. I Have LPP Longtubes with an LPP Y-Pipe and an SLP LM1 and thats it. It stops there...no other piping. So if I have no seal there exhaust will pour into the car lol.

This is exactly what i was thinking. I am going to drop the tank on my camaro when it comes time for the new pump, but while it's out I'm going to make my cuts so I'll have an access panel later. I already have the rear end out so it's not a big deal

I painted mine with some left over undercoat and it made it look real nice. It does not have that scrap metal look to it. Just a thouhgt. I figured it would also protect it a bit.

thats what i was going to suggest. the weather stripping with an adhesive side. really wouldn't need it because the pump probably wont ever go out again, but i think it is just a bit cleaner and easier to deal with. i know noone will see it but i know its there. <---- just my opinion though. thanks for the measurements i'm actually getting ready to put a 255 in mine
