I used a cut off wheel when I did mine. I didn't see this mentioned, so I'll go ahead and say it. COVER EVERYTHING. I was an idiot and didn't. Found out when I had my window tinted that I had a thousand little bits of metal embedded in the glass on my hatch.

Nice 'pics. I wish I had used a real cut-off wheel instead of my damn Dremel-I burned the damn thing out. Also, I like the "L" shaped cut above the lines. I just cut it straight and had a hell of a time trying to disconnect and reconnect the lines. I don't ever want to touch that stuff again!

AND DONE! lol the cutting part was the easiest. The Harness was like a 4 out 10 due to having to move jack stands around and whatnot and squeezing under the car in certain areas. the battery cable that i got was the biggest PITA and waste of time. First of all its the same size as the one thats already on the car. then the little brass fitting's inner screw broke on me when i was tightening it down. The stock ground screws top portion broke on me so then i had to unscrew the whole thing and then use that as the ground screw. everything else went smoothe!

I have to change the pump on my wifes 97 vert. with little to no room in there to work. where do I need to measure to even start? I did one on my 95, but its not a convertable and was very easy.

shouldnt be any different. ALL verts started live the same as hardtop/t-tops cars.
Ive done a few access pannels. only diff. is I use rivnuts to resecure the new plate made.

The previous owner of my 95 Formula added the trap door with these same demensions, but instead of scrapping the section cut out he re-used it as the door. He took a length of 1/8" thick by 1 1/2" wide aluminum and cut it in pieces to fit the border of the door opening. The he riveted those to the trunk floor so the original "door" that was cut out just sits on top of them and you screw it down. This way it's a perfect, FLUSH fit of the same guage and finish. Besides the screws to hold it down it's almost invisible.
Sure noone sees it anyway, but this was super easy and you don't have to cut out a piece of sheet metal.

I didn't take any while I had it apart, but the opening looked just like the one on the first page of this thread. The only difference is the previous owner reused the section that was cut out. He rivited some strips of aluminum around the perimeter of the trap door opening so that you can scew the panel to those and it will sit flush and look more stock.
Although he made the traditional rectangular cut using the measurements posted in this thread and I was able to reach the hose connections alright, I still think the L shaped cut is the way to go.

They go towards the front of the tank and plug into a bulkhead type junction on the back of the floorpan where it kicks up behind the seat. I was able to crawl underneath by my driver's rear tire and unplug/re-plug it without jacking the car up.
I think the one in The Merv's pic is a later model so the wiring at the sending unit may look a little different.
