Default Block Filling

Hey everyone!!!

Need to pick your brain for a bit. I am looking at picking up a half-filled block for my 355 build. My goals for the car: street/strip, full weight.

I'd still like to drive the car (reliably) 50 or so miles a week. What experiences have you had with half-filled blocks with regard to oil temperature, overheating, cooling in stop and go traffic.?

Thanks in advance!!

good point...its just that I came across a really good deal on a block that is already half-filled. Thats why I have my concerns, because if I get it, theres no turning back

It's not necessary for a street/strip 355. Overkill, IMO.

I completely agree with you...so you're saying ditch the deal? I am still having qualms about the cooling issues (especially with oil temps). It would just be too good of a deal (pricewise and convenience-wise) to pass up.

So I would just like to get some thoughts on some driveability issues. Some highway driving to car shows and the track will be in store for this car, so i don't want to make a mistake of starting with a half-filled block

I went with a half fill because my block is .065" over. my builder doesn't think i'll have any trouble keeping the motor cool since i'm running e85, but i'm sure you'll be fine running it on the street dude

On my street 383 I filled just below the frost plugs. My engine builder assured my I wouldn't have a cooling issue.

I believe you missed the point of his original post. He wasn't asking if it's necessary or needed, he was asking for personal experiences and driving temp concerns. Peter, from what I've seen, there isn't really a temperature problem. Maybe a slight increase, but nothing that will be devastating.

run a big oil cooler up front with like -10 lines to hold a little extra oil in the lines..buy a oil temp gauge so you can keep track of the temps and make sure your cooling system is right an you will be good..
