Turbo'd 383 build thread

BTW - I just realized that this is thru an auto, you must be pushing that single walbro to its limits. That's ~800 flywheel hp (~20% drivetrain loss). Nice! I bet you the car will haul the mail at the track.

BTW i was told "about 15psi." Don't know much of the details at this point.

When do you think they'll send you the graph, and the tq numbers? Also, try and get accurate psi numbers from them when they are done.

I was going to get all that info when I pick up my car. I assume they will have some papers on it. The tuning was done like last Wednesday and I wanted them to look at my exhaust because they put it on crooked or something. Basically I can't fit one exhaust tip on because it hits the bumper and the other side is low. I don't want to knock on VA Speed but I've been bugging them to look at it and they say they will call me back that day but never do. I mainly just get annoyed by one of the male service advisors there. He just isn't polite to me. The woman is really nice though. Also Ed, the tuner, does a very good job with customer relations and his tuning. He 's the only one who calls me up to update me on my car.
This Saturday is pretty much the only day I have available to pick up my car for the next few weeks. So I'll be calling them up tomorrow to tell them it has to be done by then.

They said it's finished. My friend and I will drive down there this Saturday and I'll drive the TA back. Hopefully I can tame myself. I think the highest horsepower car I've ever been in was like 400-450hp; and that was an old heavy muscle car.

Ho-ly-****. Babied it most of the way home but I did a few quick wot runs on the highway from like 70mph and it still pulls like a motherfu(@$%
My friend made a quick video on his Iphone so I can see the boost and A/F. Making 15psi with about 11.1 A/F. This video was a 2nd to 3rd gear run. Spun at top of 2nd then shifts to 3rd http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...rent=boost.mp4

Yeh, besides the fact when I got the car it was actually making like 18psi and cutting out up top from running too rich. He told me that it was tuned at 15psi so I was wondering, why the hell is it running 18psi and cutting up?! I checked my manual boost controller and see it is turned all the way to least boost. So I turn it all the way to max boost and make a pull (actually the same pull from the video) and see it made 15psi then. I haven't checked it yet, but I suspect they put the vacuum lines going to the MBC backwards. They did have to roll a bead on my intercooler tubing because the boost was blowing it off; so I guess they moved the boost controller out of the way and didn't put the lines back right. But they did the intercooling tubing BEFORE tuning, so how they heck did they tune it with 15psi and I get the making 18psi?? I'm not even mad, I just want to know how it happened. I'll call em up later.
Other than that little rant, I'm happy with the car. I have a 955cc Triumph t595 which is probably just as fast but it doesn't compare. It's a whole different feeling when your getting smushed into your seat . And I realized that it's very difficult to mess around on the street compared to when I was just bolt ons. You start running out of road FAST! I'll need to take it to the track before I truely feel safe. What are the safety devices you have to have at the track if you run low 11's or high 10's?

With turbo setups, alot of times a dynojet dyno doesn't load the car like the street does, so i suspect it only loaded the car enough to make 15psi on the dyno (with the boost controller setup as is). i hear this alot, that some guys' cars the makes more boost on the street then on the dyno.

Here is the dyno graph. My best run was 643hp/627tq and fully heatsoated is 626hp/618tq.

Awesome numbers man!
I haven't been on here forever...recently I bought semi finished single turbo camaro with a garret gt-42 76mm. I'm also running a single walbro, with the stock wiring! I'm installing the racetronix harness tonight.
Quick question for you...do you have exhaust on it or just a downpipe? My turbo is directly in front of the water pump and I have no idea how to get the exhaust out the back unless I choke it down to 3'' pipe and run it under the K-member with that flat exhaust pipe.
Realquick...do you think I would lose power going taking my exhaust down from 4in. to 3in.?
Thanks
James
Edit: my slow computer finally loaded all the pics. Do you have any exhaust plans? I would really like to get my exhaust out the back.
