LS1 head conversion

LS1 head conversion
Just as the title says. Is it possible to convert a pair of LS1 heads onto an LT1? The reason I ask is I can get my hands on a set of stock '02 LS1 heads for practically nothing and it would be awesome to be able use these heads especially considering the heads are the weaker link with the LT1 engine. Thanks in advance.

ok. cool. thanks for the quick responses. Just getting into the F-body game full time. I came from the ford side of things. oh and don't worry I will be bugging the fire out of all of you for knowledge on these cars in the coming weeks/months/years. thanks in advance.

glad to see you join us and get away from the dark side. LT1 and LS1 are completely different motors.
Correction : the lifters are interchangable dont think anything else is.

quick question. i have been looking and looking. I have a '95 T/A with the low rise spoiler and one of the few rare red leather interiors, a4 with original 141,xxx miles. how much would I be looking at to stroke the car out to a 396 with a decent set of heads and the smallest cam I can manage to reach a low 11.xxx pass at 120+? would prefer to do it all engine. any suggestions? also before its brought up I know I will need a good stall and built drive line, thats kinda universal between all cars. lol. The engine is the only thing I'm not used to.

The ONLY interchangeable thing between the two motors is the lifters - NOTHING ELSE. No accessories, valvetrain, etc.
A 396 with all of the proper supporting modifications (depending on your desired power output) will cost you an easy $7,000+ and up.

holy hell! didn't realize that would be so expensive. so here's an opinion question. 396 vs. 355 for mainly street, occasional strip. is there any real advantages assuming i'm shooting for no more than 450 to the wheels without a power adder?

All things being equal, a 383 will make more power than a 355.
Keep in mind though that 95% of the power is made in the valvetrain (heads and cam). While 450whp isn't unheard of on a stock bottom end, it won't be easy, especially with a stalled automatic.
What kind of budget do you have?

I wouldn't dwell too much on building a car for dyno numbers. You can make a 450rwhp car on stock suspension and street tires and still run a horrible time at the track. Power numbers are only a small part of the equation; getting it to the ground is also very important and overlooked a lot

so say for example here is my wish list, critique it please.
Forged internals@ 10.2-5:1 comp.
ported AI heads(not sure on dimensions)
Decent ground cam(22x/23x:.600?)
Full exhaust
Port and Polished intake
Fuel system upgrades
3600 Yank or DD stall
How does that look so far? please add or change at will.
