Take the belt off.

See how it sounds a quick try and will eliminate the alternator and then leave the water pump, water pump shaft and heaven forbid....

Good luck

ya i do to, but i have good oil pressure and ive been ripping on it seeing if its ready to take to the track and it hasnt seized up or anything. im wondering if it is something to do with the alternator and crank pulley not bein lined up good. ill take the belt off and see if it goes away.

My 58mm Holley TB makes a high pitch whine. Did you install a new TB at the same time of the cam swap?

Did you replace the small gear for the water pump? Sometimes they are a matched set. Your old one can be worn a little and not mesh with the new cam gear and starts whining.

Did you take the belt off or are you still waiting for someone to tell you a Kabookie dance will fix it?

Did you take the gear off when you put electric water pump or leave it on? If it is on and with belt off it still whines you will have a candidate. Keep looking here and it will be next week and you will be no closer to a fix.

Good luck

Did you have the intake ported when you installed the cam?If you did, this might sound crazy but it happend to me.I was doing a head and cam swap on my buddys camaro,he bought a fully ported intake from Arkansas porting,I got everything put back together, sounded real good until it warmed up.Thought maybe spun a bearing, nope pulled the intake off and removed the oil valley pan on the bottome of the intake and found that whoever did the porting on the intake DID NOT PUT THE PLUGS BACK IN There are 6 pipe plugs in the bottom.Just a thought. It was building pressure in the bottom of the motor and made it sound like a squealing pig.Good luck, keep us posted

i never thought of this, it felt like it droped into place pretty easy tho. i have not had time to take the belt off and try it, been pretty busy. but im almost posiitive this is more of a metal whine and not the belt. but to rule it out i will ttake the belt off. i dont have anything left of the waterpump drive. the hole is plugged on the timing cover.

The oil pump shaft and cam gear really only go in one way. It's either right or very wrong. It sounds like you need to pull the timing cover off and have a look.
