Default Sob oil leak! Again

After replacing the front crank seal I drove it for about 70 miles and it started leaking again. Now I wasnt for sure that it was that seal but the oil is being slung in the rotation of the pulley. My hub had a small groove but it wasn't deep at all, could it be worn? Or maybe something else dripping down from above the crankshaft pulley? Thanks in advance guys

Yup, those grooves are killers. You probably need a speedy sleeve.

Ya it doesnt take much for a seal to leak. You could take the spring of the back of the seal lip and take it apart where it connects cut the spring a little re connect the spring together and put it back on the seal. This will make the spring slightly smaller which will make the lip slightly tighter on the hub. Hope this makes sense.

Give it a few more heat cycles first and a little more time to swell up. On my fresh build mine leaked a drop a day for about a week and has since stoped. If you want to replace the hub jegs has some nice ones. I used on of thiers on my build and it was only 80 to 90 bucks. Plus they are keyed.

I bought a "replacement" hub, with a keyway, for my LT1 from Golen Engine Service. It uses the stock pulley.

Edit: I was just reading another oil leak discussion here, and someone posted a picture of the "Jegs" crank hub. It's the same as the one I bough through Golen (but the Jegs hub is cheaper....)

could also be your waterpump timing chain cover seal. Those are known to leak pretty bad also. Drips down making it look like its the hub causing the leak when really it isnt. just a thought.....

Yeah that little seal is sneaky. I swore I had a opti seal leak or a front oil pan gasket leak and it was really the water pump seal.

You gotta' love it....I remember reading an article about the LT1 engines back in the mid-90s, when Chevy introduced them. They said that eliminating sources of oil leaks was a prime goal. So, what did they do? They replaced a front cover that had one opening for the crank, for close to 40 years, with a front cover that had water pump drive, Opti-Spark drive, the crankshaft, and later, the carnk position sensor.

Of course, as we ALL know, those other 3 openings NEVER leak.....

I almost forgot...they seal the rear of the intake manifold with RTV, then run the EGR tube right up to within a half-inch of it!

well the water pump was replaced right before I bought it from the dealership. Think maybe they left out or ruined one of the o-rings? got anymore info on the hub sleeve? Like price and ease of installation

It's also possible there is was rust on the hub too close to the seal causing it to eat through the seal.

The speedi sleeve is $29.97 at bumper to bumper and I think $40.00 at Napa. Installation is easy tap it on with hammer or use a press. Pressing it on is alot easyer and quicker.
