Default Rod knock, maybe

I'm almost positive i have a rod knock. It can only be heard when i burp the throttle and its returning to idle. What are my options at this point. i plan in pulling the pan and checking every bearing one by one. What are the chances that the crank has to come out?

why you should check the oil and filter first. If you don't find anything there then you may just be hearing piston slap or a lifter going soft.

If you can, post video.

If the motor HAS gone south, you can't just pull the main caps, toss new bearings in, and call it a day. You're looking at a full rebuild.

Yea any loud noise like that is going to echo in the block and the pcm is going to pull timing. Is it all the time or just when you get off the gas?

You would hear a rod knock over an exhaust lol. You may just have an exhaust leak. I had a leaky header that sound like a damn rod knock and ended up building a new engine for it only to have it do the same thing again. Turned out I had a leaking header at the collector. Had a bad weld on a primary pipe to the collector. They sound just like exhaust leaks and if you don't hear it over the exhaust and engine it is more than likley not a rod knock at all unless it just started and it should get louder fairley quick. CHECK YOUR OIL AND FILTER!!! look for shiney stuff. Drain the oil over top of a strong magnet and see if it collects anything. Cut the filter open and look to see if anything is in it. If you don't see anything then start looking at the exhaust system. It could also be a rocker or lifter. As to why you have no power I don't know but check that oil and filter first to see whats in it.

Yea and if the knock is getting worse it may start grinding from the bearings. But you can just by a short block from a local on here.

if you have an auto transmission check torque converter bolts. if they come loose they sound like a rod knocking.

Not to sound like a kill joy but your kind of rushing into tearing it down. Cut that filter open first. If you find something post a pic or if you know what your looking for then fine by all means tear the pan off or take the engine out and tear it down but for me personally It would take some serious evidence to make me to want to take the time to pull the pan.
What dose your oil pressure look like? You said you have a full exhaust on it. Here is a pic of what I thought was a rod knock and ended up being an exhaust leak. There was no evidence of an exhaust leak when I looked either. I went over mine 6 times and could not find anything. This is in the header looking inside the collector. One is with light shined up into and the other is light on the outside with the camera up in the collector. Don't be fooled by an exhaust leak, I could have used that money for other projects that I had going on insted of building a new engine for it.

Oil pressure is like 40 at start up then quickly drops to 25 after a minute of idling. And after a half hour of driving it will drop to 0 at idle. and sometimes wont have the 10psi per 1000 rpm. It doesnt take me very long to drop the pan. I have a lift and all the correct tools. It should take an hour tops.

I dropped the pan and it was a rod knock bearings and crank are trashed. My next worry is if the cam is going to trashed too or do the usually survive?

Other things usually survive but you will need to check them out when you perform the teardown. Good thing I have a engine for you to grab

the cam itself should be ok, but when you pull the motor you will find out for sure

are you rebuilding it or swapping a new motor in there

Yea I need a lift. It takes me 4 times as long to do stuff with the car on stands and me on my back.

Im picking up a shortblock and swapping everything over. Its getting all new cam bearings im just hoping the cam isnt shot, but i think its going to be ok.

Jaycenk- i highly recommend a lift if you have the means. i would be alot more pissed if i had to put in another motor without one
