I am done with Lt1/Camaros/Chevrolet

I feel your pain. I had problem after problem after problem with my '94. After dropping a valve, I threw in the LT1 towel and went on the hunt for a LS1 car.
I'll never look back. I can't even list the ways it's better.
Don't get me wrong guys, I loved the LT1 car and had some good runs with it. The LS1 is just better.
It's a ton of work to swap up to an LS1. Find yourself a car that already has it. A nice SS or one of the many special edition Firebirds will do you well.

Maybe they are a better motor. But one things for sure No Ls1 car looks as good as my LT1 car. T-Tops are freakin gay and not supposed to be on a hotrod

Had my LT1 since October 99, i love everything about it. I've went threw every inch of my Z its just fun to work on.
I hear it all the time guys will race the **** out of it then complain when something breaks, buy a car they never want to work on. You got to pay to play, if parts aren't breaking you aren't racin!
On other hand if you got defected parts, its not the problem with the car its problem with the part or possibly not installed correctly (in most cases)

I've come to determine that 383+6speed+hard shifting= opti death. The stockers just can't handle quick rpm shifts. I went through 4 opti's in 30k miles after putting my 383 in. Finally bought a MSD- been good since.

this is waht i have came up with.....
people who hate LT1s are people that don't work on cars on a day to day basis and then then they "Try" to work on it when it breaks; which ends up in a "I hate this Fu**in car I wish I had a ls1,thread" because something was hard to do... I work on cars every day and compared to other cars LT1s arent that dig of a deal... do a oil pan gasket/rear main seal on a Cadillac northstar and then say working on a lt1s are hard to work on...

An ongoing opti problem is the only issue I've had with the car other then normal wear items. if I can get all of that B.S squared away, I will have absolutely nothing to complain about on this LT1!
X2.
If I ever buy an ls1 Camaro.......Its getting an LT1 front clip swapped to it
Ding ding ding........we have a winer! EVERYTIME that the opti/rotor has exploded on me has been on the 1-2 powershift @ 6800+ rpm.
Ive been through 6 in less then 10K miles
I'm very close to doing the 24x conversion, but do not want to deal with re tuning, then retuning when I build the 383. So I'm trying to hold off till I build the motor. I may pick up an MSD or Dynaspark.
Also all of the ones that have gotten 100-200K miles out of thier stocker......there is a reason for that: The stock opti is MUCH better then any OEM replacement PRESENTLY available. The AC delcos have gone to ****. They are now manufactured in mexico, and they have way too much play in the shaft. Couple that with high RPM and quick shifts, and the rotor deflects and comes apart.

LOL wasnt expecting the thread to turn into this. Seems a lot of you guys just get your rocks off defending an inferior design. Yes your right, I dont work on cars on a day to day basis and I shouldnt have to do major maintanence every 1000 miles in order to maintain a primarily stock 95. I am just done driving an LT1 to the grocery store and riding in a rollback home.

i actually had fun replacing my opti it shitted out after 10k miles. bought an OEM AC and replaced it (didnt loctite the rotor) but it was fun finally cleaning the timing cover off and painting the waterpump.
the LS1 is just easier to do everything including cleaning. the LT1 just needs tough love kinda like surprise **** on your wife if she is in a bad mood.

After owning both Im still an LT1 guy. IMO they are easy to work on and dont give me much trouble.
As far as a better motor, go check ALL the records and LT1s still compete with LS1s and even hold some of them, like Taners 8 sec 6spd LT1 f-bod. There is one LS1 f-body faster but its a race car and its not a real m6 anymore. I think its a 4spd without reverse in a t56 case.

I'll atleat have a practically brand new AC delco opti as a spare. It has less then 500 miles, has never seen WOT, or over 4000 rpm (After breaking so many of them, I was not going to take the chance of getting on it and set the rev limiter on my mallory 685 to 4500 rpm, lol)
^^^^^^Damn that almost sounded like a for sale post

i agree opti's are total crap. i went out of my way and spent $800 to get the "Delteq" coil-pack conversion. other than my 383 lt4 build, its by far the best upgrade i have done to my car. i have the acceleration of a built ls1 and its make me incrediably happy so heers to you DELTEQ

my stock opti lasted 118k. Than i had some bone heads install a new one that lasted 1k, then they finally fixed what they did wrong, 5k+ now on this one, well while the car was still running.

You can at least drill out the plastic 'rivets' and put real ones in the rotor on the Delco/Delphi units. And for us unvented 93-94 guys, you can even vent the bugger yourself:
