I am done with Lt1/Camaros/Chevrolet
Ok, today when I get in the car to go to work the car cranks, sputters, dies. Pull a plug wire, check spark...nothing. Opti is done.
Heres what has happened in the past 4 years
2006
Bought the car for $1500 needing a headgasket. Pull the motor ~108k miles to find the motor ragged to hell. Replace entire shortblock/top end. Brand new opti..radiator etc.. esentially entire engine bay new.
2007
Get the car on the road...~1k miles later motor starts knocking..opti takes a ****. Replaced
4k miles later. Wet rainy night pop buy the grocery store....opti gets wet...takes a **** leaves me stranded.
2008
8k later. Thermostat sticks going down the highway, before I can get off the road car is at ~260-280F left side no compression. Pull motor again.
Car sits until Janurary 2010 pull motor replace gasket.
Literally <100 miles later get in the car this morning no fire....
I am done

How is it that people's opti gets wet in the rain? Why don't you seal the damn thing while you have it out? If you have someone work on your car then you shouldn't own it to begin with. They are very high maintenance and it's always good to do your own things so you know what is being done. I've taken mine through downpours and deep puddles with absolutely no issues. All it takes is an extra 5min of work and a tube of silicone.

I feel your pain. I had problem after problem after problem with my '94. After dropping a valve, I threw in the LT1 towel and went on the hunt for a LS1 car.
I'll never look back. I can't even list the ways it's better.
Don't get me wrong guys, I loved the LT1 car and had some good runs with it. The LS1 is just better.
It's a ton of work to swap up to an LS1. Find yourself a car that already has it. A nice SS or one of the many special edition Firebirds will do you well.

I beat my car to death every single time i drive it. I had the engine out soon as i bought it and did a vented msd cap/rotor on the stock opti with 115k, lock tite on the rotor screws and rtv to seal the opti and it runs without a single problem....Well i ahve a slight vibration from where to clutch disc smacked the pressure plate when i blew the stock 1993 clutch, but other than that, no problem.

I feel ya op, my old 96 383 car has been thru 2opti's and the car just turned 44k mi. The 383 went about 8k mi before it **** out a brand new gm opti that was siliconed around the cap and had the screws loctited. It still worked but when we pulled the cap off, you could tell **** had been arching everywhere... We have been chasin little gremlins on this car for 6weeks now. Since my brother bought the car it has been one issue after another. We ended up pulling the intake and resealing it... New opti, 1.7 high tech stainless rr's, new patriot extreme gold springs, new chromeoly pushrods, electric cutout, moser m9" rear... Now the car is pretty much dialed in but bank2 is trimming 20% percent at idle, then corrects itself when your driving it. Tuner says its an exhaust leak. So now were going to try a new set of header gaskets, if that don't fix it, then a new set of stainless headers are going to replace the pacesetters... At that point it almost has to be a pinhole leak in the header itself causing the fuel trim issue on that bank... Welcome to the world of the lt1!!
