Default Kooks aluminum header gaskets

I ordered some carbon Kooks header gaskets and received aluminum gaskets instead. These aluminum gaskets are 1/16" solid gaskets and dont appear to be the "conforming" type, there are more solid. There are instructions provided that state to coat both sides of the gasket with high temp RTV.

Having to use RTV is going to be a PITA for install as well as future removal assuming I ever haver to pull them plus I have never had any luch with high temp RTV going the distance. Running the bolts in is a painfully slow process on the right side header so I hope I can get the gasket torqued down before the RTV dries.

Has anyone used these 1/16" aluminum gaskets without RTV with any sucess?

No way in hell would I use a gasket that specifically says to use RTV - no way.

Felpro 1406s FTW. They're cheap and work great.

Where did you get them? I didn't even know Kooks made header gaskets. I used Percy's instead of what was supplied with my headers.

I used Felpro 1406's as well. From all the posts I read before purchasing, everyone said go with Felpro 1406's or the Percy ones.

I wouldn't want to deal with that mess any time you need to take the headers off.

These gaskets came directly from Kooks. I found them on their website but again they were advertised as carbon gaskets. I will call them up and ask what happened.

This Kooks gasket is well machined and it probably works very well. I just hate using RTV on exhuast parts due to that added work needed to remove it which in this case would mean me pulling the header due to a lack of room to really work.

I just ordered some Felpro 1406 gaskets locally. I have used these before and never had a failure. They are trim well with the Dremel to raise the rounded roof up a little higher to better match the ported port. I would rather just replace these a bit more often than fool with the RTV.

I called Kooks. It appears they were low stock on the carbon gaskets so they shipped the aluminum ones instead. They did manage to find a set of carbons and they are now on the way to me.
