no start after cam install...
i finally got around to putting everything back together, but now the damn thing wont start. I have fuel, spark, and im pretty sure that the timing is lined up properly. I installed the cam gear at 6 o'clock and the crank at 12o'clock. It will turn over but to me doesn't seem like it is turning over fast enough. During the install i also had the heads milled and just a clean up job locally on the heads (reinstalled with .026 gaskets). Could the sluggish starter be the cause of the no start?
Also the valves have been adjusted accordingly as well as a brand new battery. Im tired of looking at my car and it not be able to start. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, even if i have already ruled them out.

also i have tried to get this starter rebuilt twice now. I brought it back in this last time due to very slow crank and the solenoid getting stuck open. It would continue to spin even after the key was in the off position. It also started to smoke, so i pulled it right after that. I just got it back for the second time today and it is still turning when the key is off as well as it still cranking poorly. For a high torque GM race starter.

what kind of starter?
check and re-check your valves.. is it throwing any codes yet? check plug & wire order.. and check your injector order. maybe do a compression check altho it sounds like you have compression.. hmm.. if still nothing maybe check to make sure the cam dowel is in the right hole on the opti
I'm sure some other people will have some ideas aswell

Ok i have a GM high torque race starter. I have a 93 so the dowel pin only goes into the cam gear itself. I have checked the plug wires twice but I will check it again. I have compression and I checked the valves a few time as well as one of.my buddies. I'm just at a complete stop with this ****.

if its not the starter it may be the rockers are to tight and why i say this is because it would but a load on the value train which intern would make the motor crank slow. if i was you just loosen all of the rockers to zero lash and dont tighten then anymore untill you get it started and see if that works

never actually stated what was the issue behind the car not starting. It was an operator error. When i reinstalled the fuel lines after taking the intake back off i switched the lines up (aftermaket kit made by larry). Switched them around and it started right up.
