Default Converter Doesn't Stall Like It Should

I'm full of questions tonight guys. Sorry

I built a helluva an LT1 and tried two converters out thus far. First was a TCI 3k from summit and the second is an Edge 3600.

When the TCI was in there it would only stall to like 1800 or so. So I sold it and spent the money for a better converter. The guy who bought it, stalled it to 3000.

The Edge I have now stalls to around 1800-2000 rpm also. So what's the deal?

I had transmission problems awhile back. Had one rebuilt with some aftermarket goodies. The parts were inspected recently and reused in another build. The transmission man said it looked good.

So what's the deal here?
Tranny bad? Slipping or something? Not allowing the converter to stall?
What about the brakes on the car? Will the converter stall with bad brakes allowing it to push through the brakes? My brakes are very sucky...

If anything Stuck brakes will make it stall more putting more strain on the converter.

Are you flashing it or foot breaking? If you are just foot breaking I would still expect it to stall around 2500. Have you called edge and told them what's going on?

I tried foot braking, but like I said it goes to about 1800 and starts pushing through the brakes. I actually sent it back to Edge and talked the man himself as he took it apart. Said it looked good. While it was there I had it set up for nitrous. When I race it I just flash the converter and I too figured I would have gotten a 2500 stall out of it.

a lot of stalls have a break in period, and wont work correctly until after few hundred miles of easy use. this is mainly with 4L60E verters die to the lock up clutches or some ****. i dont know what tranny your running. but look and see if the manafacturer has any break in procedures.

Break in was like 50 stop and goes or something like that. I did that twice with same result. And Edge said the converter was fine and in good working order. The transmission is a 4L60E.

Bad brakes will allow the car to push early. It should start applying forward momentum as soon as about 1000-1500 rpms. If your brakes can't hold it then you arent ever gonna reach 2500.

Ironoutlaw, he said sucky not stuck.

I was thinking the same thing. I heard of people putting line locks on the rear brakes for this reason.

Studying my data log from last season, I think the car flashed to around 2500. Its hard to tell and I'm not sure if I'm reading the data correctly.

Its everywhere. On the street at the track. Anytime.

Tires are Nitto DRS on the street and slicks on draglites at the track.

Looks like the brakes are your limitation. I could never brake stall my 3600 or 4000 stalls more than 2500-3000rpm for the same reason. My best 60' times actually come from launching the car just above idle ~1200rpm.

Flashing the converter seems to be best but I'd sure like to try stalling it once.

It won't always go too high with a foot-brake. Trans brake will get you up there though without a doubt. My 3,700 converter goes up to like 2,000-2,500rpm's before it starts spinning with the foot-brake. Pretty tight converter though. Also, I prefer flashing it rather than loading it..
