Default Shorty Headers owners, come in

This is merely research for a possible future set up, now you guys with shorty style headers, are any of you running the plug wires over the valve covers, also what brand do you have and what is the plug access like?

I have the 24X conversion so my coil packs mount to the V covers, so the plug wire basically run from the top down, it's doable with the Hooker LTs, close in a bunch of spots. I'd be using the shorty headers for a build

Yes it is. I'll be doing one someday. Forged 355 built to handle a LOT of boost.

Neil spend the money on a tubular turbo header instead of making some shorty header 'work' I cannot stand those kits that shoot backwards then wrap under the k-member to meet the turbo up front.

Do it right son.

It would be ludicrous to put OTVC wires on a shorty header car. The wires would have to be extra long and it would be extremely difficult to not burn one. I had shorties for a while and there was no room to get wires in there from any angle on top.

That only goes for certain brands of shorties. There are a few brands that don't prohibit OTVC setups.

I don't see how it's feasible. I mean how on earth are you going to prohibit burnt wires on the passenger side? I have protect-a-boots and LT's and I still think that mine are going to burn out b/c they are so close to the primaries.

I have hooker shorties and use MSD cut to fit wires, running over the valve covers. They are far from touching the headers and look good.

I'm running pacesetter shorties, and plug access is a PITA. I've heard guys change them quickly, but I honestly don't know how they do. Maybe their idea of "quickly" is different than mine...

Good luck!

I said it depends on the brand of headers you have. Not all of them have the primaries routed the exact same way.

Sure enough, but any way you look at them they all have to go roughly over the top of the plugs. Which definitely makes it difficult to route wires right next to and even more difficult to keep from burning.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with plug wires and shorties.

Haha. Well too put it this way I changed out the shorties for LT's and when I was pulling the plug wires one of them was completely destroyed. The wire literally was detached from the boot. Might explain why my power was a little low...
