How much spring pressure can hydraulic lifters take?
I have purchased a set of used ported heads with springs supposedly good to .700". I haven't received them yet to test the spring pressures, but I assume with this much lift that these are for solid lifters. I have been recommended Patriot Gold springs for my cam, but if these springs will work for now I will use them (once I can test the seat/open pressures of course). How much spring pressure can hydraulic roller lifters take with roller cam of say .583 lift 226 duration?

The lift will dictate the open pressure as well as the coil bind clerance as will the installed height of the spring. I would think around 130-145 lbs. on the seat and 295-330 open lbs. would be safe on a hydr roller.Howare you planning to rate these springs once you recieve them?

Last time I talked to the tech guys at Comp cams the one I was talking to didn't recommend too much more than 400 pounds on stock type lifters due to bleed down issues at high rpms.
I'm running right around 400 and have never had a problem on stock lifters and know some people run springs a lot stiffer (afrs for example) and don't have too much of an issue. As a general rule I'd say Comps recommendation of about 400 lbs on stock lifters sounds about right.

My motor had a hydraulic cam in it...and had the stock AFR-8000 springs in it (dual spring, 225# and 600# at install height). It ran just fine! But, just to be more hydraulic-friendly, they were changed out to the AFR-8002 (170# and 430# at install height). I'm actually sort of surprised nothing got screwed up using the previous springs.
