Default Blown 355 or 383??

I'm needing to rebuild my motor and have been stuck between these two motors. I am thinking of a 10-12 psi 355 and a 383 with 306 cam. Anyone have any opinion as to which path I should take? Thanks

I would rather build a boosted 355 than a N/A 383........just my 2 cents. And 10-12 psi on a 355 should make quite a bit more power than a 383 with a 306 cam.

Once you stroke a LT FI motor you get into bigger power. I would do a 381 with boost, keep those cylinder walls thick. Your going to need bigger and better flowing heads to really wake up a 379,381,383,385 etc.

But you could just have the exhaust ports of your LE2's ported more and you should be fine. Since your going to have compressor pushing air into the motor getting it out is going to be important.

Were you thinking blower or turbo??

Yea I've already sent them to a buddy and had him port more. But when it comes down to turbo or supercharger I'm split in half, I would like the supercharger because I wouldn't have to run another oil line or have to have it mounted in the rear. But I hear turbos are smoother comin on so there's a less chance of breaking the tires loose and they sound amazing

383. Go big.

And if this motor is going to be purpose-built, I would get a custom grind blower-specific cam instead of that 306.

Im in the same boat deciding between a NA 383 or a Boosted 355 too. Im leaning toward a twin t04e 50 trim setup. The turbos are small enough to spool like crazy and have the ability to produce some crazy power when raising the boost. Heres a site to play around with compressor maps and get an idea what turbo setup could be good with your engine.

i don't think you can compare a forced induction and NA motor combination... One will cost at least 2x as much and obviously when completed make a lot more power. Comes down to budget really

Its not really comparing the two, its more like deciding which way to travel. Seeing both builds are so different its better to choose which way to go and stick to it. If i would be happy with 500hp i would probably just do a 383 cause it is cheaper and so much simpler but being the weight of the F Body, i dont see 500hp cutting it. I know a 383 build would yield alot of torque to get the car rolling but i love the non stop pull a turbo engine has in just about any gear.

I've pretty much came to a conclusion, I'm gonna with the 383 and if it's not enough power I'll just throw a turbo on it

Well if you do that your going have to change the compression, cam, pistons, etc. Pretty much the entire setup.

Its sounds like a mild blown 355 might be in order. It should only cost a few grand more more than a done up 383 and put down some more power.

30 over block
Mahle, SRP, (some 500-600 piston)
scat I beam
ARP rod bolts
stock crank~reconditioned

Re use you heads after the extra exhaust work, have someone spec you a custom blower grind (under 6.5rpms) and find a used Procharger with a IC so you dont have to run an oil line.

It should do 500rw ish with 10psi. If you want a NA 383 to do that its going to be a race motor. Just a thought tho.
