Default Some weight reduction questions...

ok so ive taken out the standard stuff to ligthen my car up, ac, rear seats, spare tire and jack. I want to lighten it up even more, however i dont want to gut the thing or start cutting, so my question is that are there any companies that make lightweight carpeting for our cars, also cheap seats that dont weigh alot, and is it a PITA to remove the big box in the left side of the engine bay were the ac lines go into?? thanks alot guys.

IMO Yes!......it comes out from the inside, so the dash has to be moved back quite a bit

You could easily do it in a day, but keep in mind once its out you will have no heat or A/C. It will also be alot more difficult to go back to a/c on your car if you want. It probably weighs 20lbs thats purely a guess so.

get a plastic seat from summit or jegs if you want light for cheap. do a google search for ozite, that's your lightweight carpet alternative. there's 100 pounds to be saved doing the seats and carpet. another 100 pounds with the front sway bar, hvac system and passenger airbag. and if you want to get serious... another 300 pounds for glass, hood, full burkhart k member, drag brakes, spindles, bumper supports, crash bars, etc.

!abs, grant steering wheel, A3 swap, extra metal behind the fenders, remove un needed wiring, ect, There are many things that can be removed from our cars. It just depends on how far you are willing to go.

o and also front crash bar IIRC weights around 30* and the rear around 40*. Full tubular suspension makes a difference as well as helping get power to the ground.

well i bought my car as a roller and it had the A/C deleted but. I decided that since it was a hardtop and my DD that I should put the A/C back in.......They took the AC/heater box out and just cut off the part that sticks out through the firewall to fully delete the A/C. It makes the engine bay look a lot nicer but I don't know how much it weight it saves.........I suggest keeping the heater, the defrost is nice on the chilly nights at the track when your windshield fogs up.......I'm not really sure how long it would take since I just worked on mine a little at a time.......Is this a daily driver or a race car?
I'm pretty sure theres some metal bars in the doors that would help cut down some weight but I personally wouldn't do it if you drive it on the street.

+1 on the lightweight battery

Also,
Strano Sway Bars (-20 or so lbs, IIRC)
Remove EGR/AIR (6-7 lbs)
Lightweigh K-Member, along with a-arms, brakes, and shocks/springs can take off over 80 lbs alone.

Idk what your goals are, but there are also manual steering and brake packages from BMR that drop another 30lbs...

Also, headers are quite a bit lighter thn stock manifolds.

^^strano's springs are quite a bit lighter than stock as well and is also un-sprung weight
also pick up a LS1 DS which can be had for cheap, '99+ plastic fuel tanks are quite a bit lighter and if you've got the loot an alum radiator shaves quite a bit of weight(~40) off the nose too

I know my statement is accurate. Either that or BMR's website is full of lies, because it's all up there too. As far as the 40 pound reduction radiator deal, IDK about that. I doubt the stocker even weighs 40 lbs.

LIES. Lots of lies. I replaced my radiator last week, it can't weigh more than 15 pounds dry. The tanks are made out of freakin' plastic. Stock is as light as it gets.
