Check gauge light wont be on b/c the oil pressure is too high, cold mine will go that high. That light may have something to do with, why it wont go into gear while running, or its another problem.
Well I had the oil pressure sensor and low oil sensor backwards, when I fixed it, thats when the check gauges light came on, so I dunno, I assumed it was because oil pressure was high.
With the tranny, the car will go into gear when it is off, but will not when the car is running. When I try to put the car into gear it will start to move the car forward and then kill the motor. I picked up a mity vac from autozone and used a method that someone made a writeup for on this forum, but still had no luck.
Awesome build . After college I had the choice of either rebuild the camaro, or buy a house, and I bought a stupid POS house which is stealing all of my god damn hard earned money. Do the fuel line mod while you are in there (free), its a shame that beautiful motor is hidden by that big ugly hose. Get a scanner, read the code and find out what the SES is. As for the trans, drain the fluid, refill it to the proper level.
So I ended up taking the car to the tranny shop, since I don't have room to drop a tranny. The problem ended up being a bad clutch fork. Fixed and finally got to drive her! She rides very rough, probably because of the poly motor mounts and open headers. I will get a video up this weekend!
In the meantime, more goodies in the mail:
Things left to do:
-Find out why the oil pressure is so high
-fix oil leak at low pressure sensor
-reroute and shorten spark plug wires
-find a more permanent solution to the caps (I need a breather)
-paint the engine pay
-add some wire looms
-install y-pipe
-get insurance
-get inspection
-get registration
-DYNO TUNE
I got the same valve covers on ebay, check the bolt lengths very carefully, mine were TOO long and did not tighten the valve covers down enough, much oil leaking followed. I ground down the bolts @ a 1/4" problem solved.
Whats wrong with sumis?? I have had them for a couple years now and don't really mind them. They don't really hook, and when their hot you might as well be driving on ice, but they wear like rocks LOL
Great build, keep up the good work and keep posting pics Makes me want to go work on mine, but I have no time and 2 cracked ribs (damn ice)
I am giving you a bunch of credit for tracking such a good build.. And you are explaining everything really well.. i'm checking this for progress and motivation.

Thanks!
I know I am a novice when it comes to doing this stuff. I learned alot and used these forums often for advice. I want to put my work out there so the next guy that comes along can avoid the mistakes I made.
Back when I used to run that oil, when the engine was COLD, it would go up to 60psi and if I touched the throttle just a little bit, it would go up. It never pegged the oil PSI gauge, but it'd go up. Once it warms up, does the psi settle down, around 50psi?
Glad ya kept it , and still had the passion to work on it after all those years. Sucks you chipped that bearing but look at the cause of that now ...man oh man that engine is nice , 4 grand? 5 grand? Man I don't even wanna know. Nice car keep it forever.
Your bearing clearances are probably on the tight side and between the weight of the oil and the cold temps the pressure is high. The builder probably put a high volume pump in it on top of that. What weight did he say to run after break in?
