Why would someone pick one ring thickness over another
Got kind of curious about this. Anyhow I noticed on rings that their are different sizes. Like the top ring I have seen options of 1/16, 5/64, or .017 and on the 2nd ring I've seen them being sometimes the same thickness as the top ring and sometimes not. This is not a very important question but kind of want to learn.
Why would someone choose a thicker or thinner Top ring?
Why would someone choose a thicker or thinner 2nd ring?
Why change the thickness's between the Top and 2nd ring?

Great article- just spent an hour with it. Makes me feel some inadequacy with my stock bottom end, ARP bolts or not. Now itching to start a new shortblock!
One thing's for sure: For a higher-end application, pick the rings before ordering pistons. "Figure out the bore size and compression ratio, then what to use for rings," McKnight says. "Pistons can be made any way. It's the rings. Line them up first."
Epiphany...
