It's nothing of importance really. Post up the numbers.

The numbers are'nt too legible. We bought a 1997 WS6 SLP car that needed alot of mechanical work, and it supposedly had a motor from a 95 in it. The intake part # is from a 94 and I was trying to find out if it was a 2 0r 4 bolt main block with out pulling the pan. Thanks,Tammy

Nothing on the exterior will tell you if it is a 2 or 4 bolt main. The same casting numbers were used for both. You just have to look.

here is some info i borrowed from nastyz28.com
Casting Date Example: E038 - (E = Month, 03 = Day, 8 = Last digit of model year (1978)).

Month: A = Jan, B = Feb, C = Mar, D = Apr, E = May, F = Jun, G = July, H = Aug, I = Sep, J = Oct, K = Nov, L = Dec

i have a block that ends with L144 so that should translate to DEC 14 1994

Thanks guys. Rob, we got it running in a few days but it had a **** ton of problems. I drove it for a week and it blew a head gasket. It is now running again and we put long tubes on it and a few other things also. It's a nice daily driver.

so if my car is a 94, and the block says k223, does that mean the block came out of a 93 car?

No, it just means when the engine was made. Back when new model introductions didn't come all year 'round, new models were introduced in the preceding fall of the model year (meaning, your 1994 was introduced in late 1993). So, your block could have easily been produced in 1993.

The block partial VIN tells you the year of the car and engine mated together.

Rob, that car had so many problems. The motor mounts had no nuts and one bolt was in backwards, tourqe arm was loose, the starter that he just put on had the two wires touching so the car almost ran us over when we first got it running(it was cranking by itself obviously), many electrical problems ie) fans did'nt work, brake lights, the drivers window was electrical (not the motor), one headlight, intake wasn't even bolted tight, opti, h2o pump, plugs were in but not gapped or tightened, IAC sensor was bad, it had no ECM, no nuts on tie rods, 2 spare tires up front and 2 flat tires in back, throw -out bearing was bad, and tghe head gasket was blown because it had antifreeze in the exhaust yet it wasn't mixing with the oil yet. The car was worth what we paid but it had many problems that wer not disclosed. We are very happy with it now,and it is a rare car. Thanks

Default H-7 h-12

One of my blocks says H-7 below the freeze plug on the back. the other is a 2 bolt main and says H-12. I was wondering about the casting numbers too. of course they both say 327.
