I learned a lot about weight loss just by looking in this thread. Until I can start cutting, stock seats and gutted doors will happen first. Lots of free or pretty low buck stuff happened here for sure.

I'm at the point where I need to make a decision whether yo rebuild the origional motor or swap it out yo a more modern platform. The lt1 still runs good just has a ton of blowby from either the pistons or rings (watch your msd rotor screws!).
I'm really sentimental over the lt1 but there is a lot of undeniable benefits to the ls stuff so well see.

I was also contemplating this today and there really arent any advantages to the LT1 besides having something no one else has. Once you get over the opti issues, its really smooth sailing. The Gen IV motors start with basically 60-80 more hp in stock form and with the aluminum block ls1 or 5.3 you are going to drop 100 lbs off the nose which the LT1 cannot. Most of the aftermarket is geared for the LS world also. For pre 96 guys like me youd also be moving up to OBD-II and therefore easier to find a tune and/or tune your own car. And the most moving for me is that the ceiling is higher.
Stock cube LT1 H/C/I ~400 hp < ~440-450 hp Stock cube LS1 H/C/I
The only downside to the LS swap is the cost initially which doesnt necessarily has to be high.

I'd bet that this particular LT1 is already making more than 400 rwhp and it's still on the stock shortblock. Swapping to even a stock used LS1 or 5.3/6.0L is not cheap. Considering he already has an excellent top end...along with the aftermarket k-member and headers being LT1 parts...I think the money would be better spent staying with the LT1 platform. I bet a swap to a TH350 and a fresh forged 383 shortblock could drop this bad boy down to the 10.50 - 10.70 range with ease.
Yes I know nearly 1/2 second is a lot at this stage, but that would be 33 more cubes, a good time to add more compression, and less weight/drive train loss with a TH350.

Yes I meant in current form
I agree here. You would be much further ahead with a forged higher compression 383.

my LT1 had made 410rwhp by 6100. thats through a th400, 9", and 28" slicks.
i floated the valves at that point that day. if it carried like it should have, peak should have been around 6700, and it would have been around 425rwhp.

Honestly, you get more bragging rights from a strong LT1. That is why I am keeping mine. I could have gone LS1, 5.3, etc... but I am sticking with the LT1. up to you though, it's your car
