Thanks for the help guys. I spent a few minutes today stairing at the car wondering which direction to go with it.

Suspension/converter and weight seem to be the best (only) options at this point other than maybe an e85 conversion.

I would still like to do a ls1 lid type swap but not into the fitment issues. Maybe a cowl induction hood with a ls1 lid?

IIRC, the VFN light weight hatch with lexan in it shaves 80 pounds off the rear of the car, if you end up with factory glass or speed glass, thats still probably 60ish pounds off.

the vfn hatch will require ALOT of work to look good, plus the cost of paint, plus the cost of lexan assuming he even wants to go that route? it's gonna cost as much as a better converter...

do you have an aftermarket steering wheel??? Have you ditched the airbags, insultation under the carpet, the 9lbs of rubber attached to the firewall behind the PS airbag???

I bet with a aftermarket wheel, lightweight carpet, no bags or rubber would be around 55-65lbs.

Still have the stock steering wheel but both airbags and insulation have been removed carpets next .

I think im going to max this setup out with free/cheap weight reduction and then do the converter as the next money mod.

I have a complete ls1 swap sitting in my garage but im curious to see if I could get a ten out of the stock short block.

Thanks guys!

I should probably add this car is still on the road and does get driven on the street still, although its not as pleasant as it once was with its road manners.

I would swap cams. The 503 is excellent for stock heads. You have ported heads which could easily support a bigger cam. A cam swap would be a heck of a lot cheaper than a converter swap. XFI467 for you! Take the carper out and drill out all of those stupid little brackets for the rear seats, the rear panels, etc. Look at your antenna mount too, there's some excess metal holding it on. Inner fender metal, just grab the sawsall, lol.

Listen to Gizmo. He knows.

I was also going to say go with a 4k stall. It'll probably get you VERY close to there by itself.

Warning to others looking to do this swap, its not cheap, not by a long shot.
The lid was used 30, radiator support 140 from gm, k and n filter was 60 and I still cant put it together because the ls1 filter tray is over a hundred bucks from gm also. avoid this one its not worth the potential gains(if any)
Unless you already have a cowl induction hood on your car...

Like I said in an earlier post this car is a freak. I've seen this car in action. It was running high 11's before the heads were ported. Just the 503 cam and SOME weight reduction, then. All the other mods he has listed in an earlier post.

maybe do an electric water pump, That will free up some rotational mass, also maybe do a lightweight racing seat.

also an aluminum radiator would save some weight, and a single electric fan. May be something to look into that could also be used after you swap the ls1 in it. same thing with the racing seat

In a earlier post you said that you didn't pick up anything from the brakes. I would advise jacking the car up and making sure your wheels are freely spinning because I picked up alot from that mod. If u have a slight binding that will prevent the rotational advantage of the aftermarket brakes.
