Many people and companys use this method. We have engines at work we dont change the oil in at all unless we have a a componet failure. My powerstroke has a bypass oil system on it with excellent synthetic oil and its at 13,000 and some change. i just change the bypass filters every 5k or so. analysis says its additive package is good to go so im running it! All my vehicles are running wix at the moment.

I always just go into my store and order a Wix for a 90 chevy pick-up with a 350. Its about 2 inches taller than the stock LT1 oil filter, I'm sure its the part number listed here elsewhere for wix.

Ya, I do oil smaples at work every time I change the oil in any component, I know how it works. I still think it's a little overkill for the op to be doing this. And as I stated before I thought he was only doing it to see if his oil was still good (no need to change it) because thats all he origionally mentioned. If that was the case it would be rediculous as he mentioned each sample costs $25 you can change your oil and filter for that price. But never the less it's not a bad idea at all, This is just my personal opinion I'm not being negative or shooting the guy down.

i lost faith in fram when they moved production to mexico. i started seeing posts over on the jalopyjournal forum multiple pictures of collapsed frams kept showing up.. i did notice fram started using plastic parts in thier oil filters..
i like wix and acdelco and k&n (k&n is expensive though).. use mopar filters on my dodge.
i would like to know a part number for the wix truck filter, the filter would come almost to the bottom of the pan.. holds a full quart of oil maybe more, i use to run them on gen1 smallblocks, but i dont have the wix part# anymore... pretty sure it was a commercial/industrial filter..
to add, i have also experienced fram fuel filters coming apart on the inside 2 seperate times, i've quit using them also..

This is fram extended guard im talking about, it selling for $9, this is the best fram oil filter ever made by fram. Peoples have good result with 7k+ miles, no one ever complaint over bobistheoilguys. Check out these pix below. Im just bought one ( first time in 10 year buying a fram , after many reading, pix, and peoples running this oil filter and cut open after 5k+ miles, and how good it hold. im finally getting one and cant wait to put on.

well i guess you have to look.. found the huge wix filter, its for a commercial/heavy duty truck or bus..

7k miles on a duramax diesel is different, thats actually low miles on an oil change for one of those diesel trucks.. they hold like 4 gallons of oil if not more..
my stepfathers 2500hd had an oil cooler on it, plus an oil tank, think the tank held 2 gallons,then figure in the oil that the engine/oilpan held, yea pretty much 4 gallons..

Wix, NAPA GLD, K&N, Amsoil, AC Delco, or M1 for Filters, the M1 111 is the short one for Kooks/LPP/ebay stepped headers, the M1 302 is the long one, 1 QT for good filtering.
M1 0w-30 colder weather, 15w-50 hot summers, or Castrol German 0-30 for when No M1 Oil available.
I change the filter every 2-3k, oil @ 5k or whenever it gets a dirty look to it.
