Default Changing the belt - Question(s)

Really need to change the serpentine belt on the old LT1. My question is twofold - 1) It doesn't appear to be too difficult as far as ensuring the proper routing/placing of the belt, 2) Does it require a lot of two-handed strength? I don't have a lot of strength in my left-hand (although I'm right-handed); I'd like to try and tackle it myself, but I don't want to set myself up for a disaster.

Thanks in advance.

The stock belt is easy to do by yourself. Put it around the alternator first and drop it down should go on without a problem

Changing the belt is prob the easiest thing to do on the lt1. You can do it by yourself, it doesnt take much strength to pull down on the tensioner to "loosen" the blet. I believe the tensioner is a 1/2" or 13mm either way both will work. It will be easiest if you jack up the front of the car or drive it up on ramps. Shouldnt take longer than 2mins once the car is raised in the front. If you have any issues let us know, it's pretty straight forward.

Thanks for the replies/advice, I'll give it a try.

SexyTransAm - It's called carpal tunnel, can't grip anything firmly for any length of time or I start getting weakness/numbness; it's not my choice, believe me.

LSWHO - Southeast Gilbert, here's a brief clip of the car; nothing special, my son had just gotten his camera and he wanted to shoot 'something'. LT1

Sorry to hear that dude. The longer ratchet or wrench you use the less strength you'll need to loosen the tensioner because you'll have more leverage. If you find you need a longer ratchet and don't have one, you can pick up a cheap one from the auto parts store for fairly cheap.

If anything get someone that can loop the belt over as you hold the wrench or vice-versa.

It shouldn't take much time but I don't know how bad the CT is for you.

A 13mm socket plus a short extension is all you need. Make sure you use the extension - your hands will thank you.

Shouldn't need it, but it's available. One good hand, and a bored kid would be sufficient.

SexyTransAm, I don't think I've seen your car, I'm just outside of E-town, at the end of St. Johns Rd.
