sounds about like mine also. It did that for about 2 weeks. Now its to the point where its hard to start, has alot of black smoke when reving, wont stay cranked, backfires when trying to keep it from dying, and just dies.

The cap and rotor are like any other distributor WEAR ITEMS but the ignorant folks of the LT1 community prefer to ignore it till it wears out them blame "bad design" and pretend the whole thing died instead of just a worn out cap and rotor.

Mines doing something similar, I just replaced the plugs and wires, the fuel filter, the pump tool a dump, checked with a gauge, and it still has a miss, pulled one of the plug wires and tested the spark, it was yellow. I took off the coil, and tested it, it was about twice the resitance, replaced it and no change, so tomorrow I'm taking it to a mechanic to dignose it, I'm stumped and need the car yesterday, I really don't know what else it could be.

If the check engine light comes on, there pretty much has to be a code registered. Are you retrieving codes soon after the light comes on? Some codes will go away after a predetermined number of key cycles that the trouble is not detected.

Any time the opti is suspected, the harness should be checked, too.

Your cap an rotor are shot. They should be replaced every 30,000 miles. At 140,000 miles replace the whole optispark.
